I have noticed some people have the smog pump removed and also say they have a dual alternator belt pulley. I removed the smogpump but i don't have the pulley. Is that a bad thing? What does the pulley do?Any help would be appreceated. Oh yeah where can i get one if i need it?
my car is a 85 gsl it has
465 cfm holley carb
racing beat intake
no vacume lines
9.3 mm wires
blaster coils
3 inch exhaust w/ stainless cat and muffler
2nd gen radiator (custom mount)
stripped and painted interior
other exterior mods but they don't make it go faster so i wont list them..

A duel pully will give you more belt contact to your water pump reducing the chance of slipage. Also the duel pully setups are under drivin usually, so turn your alternator and water pump slower than stock to reduce the posibility of cavitation in the water pump, and reduce the strain on the engine due to turning the alternator and water pump.
You can get them from Racing Beat.

http://rx7cz.net - Look under shop.
hiGGi has them with the ROTOR SHAPPED ONES $40. SHIPPED I'VE gotten @ from him silver and red.
As for belts Jeff's yohoo belt will work fine just a matter of finding the belt.
The belts i recomend are the GOODYEAR GATOR BACK BELTS. LIFE TIME GUARENTEE and Guarenteed not to slip.
The only thing there about $17.00 ea. so $34.00. theres a thread about search my SN or the belt name.
Good Luck

yea thats what i did when i removed my air pump. look up rx7carls removal of the rats nest tutorial, i think it the 3l220 or somthing like that . i just went to napa and ordered it, got it the next.$7 and some change... i havnt heard the belt slip yet.
The pulley from Higgi is pretty sweet.
He's in some crazy Czech republic country somewhere, so I was surprised by the extremely fast shipping - had my pulley within a week.
He has a ton of colors, I liked red:

Or you can get an underdrive pulley, or you could do both. Underdrive and slip. heh.

slip cost a wrench and a extra belt in the car at all times
A warning about the Yoohoo belt.
I put on a yoohoo belt last week. Same part number and everything that Jeff20B has in the photo. I went on TIGHT! But I didn't think much about it. 3 days ago, the water pump pulley SHATTERED while in traffic. When I say shattered, the pulley blew of from the attachment bolts, sending a few chunks of metal onto the pan below. It made a horendous noise. Sounded like a cat got stuck in the fan.
I'm not going the yoohoo route again. I'm just going to get a dual alt. one and be done with it. This is not something I want to happen again.
I got the car home without any overhearting(I hope) but I'm not sure of the extent of the problems just yet. A new engine noise has cropped up since I replaced the pulley, and I'm affraid that is might somehow be related.
Anyway just some caution.
I have the pulley sitting on my desk. It does make a good conversation piece now.

Yeah post a pic! I'm curious about how good the yoohoo belt idea actually is.
I got my info about the yoohoo concept from Blake Qually on the MazdaREPU forum (I assume he got the idea from Rob Golden at Pineapple Racing, for what it's worth).
I went to Napa and had them find the closest V-belt size to the 3L220. I threw it on a freshly rebuilt 13B. It broke-in and was great (it sent some rubber dust out during break-in). Then the radiator cracked and the engine overheated (not caused by the belt lol). I saved the belt and put it on my old 13B in my MG Midget. It went on easy compared to a new belt.
I also bought two more Napa belts for other engines. Now I'm a little worried.

I found the thread.

If there was a way to break-in new belts to sort of pre-stretch them, it would take a lot of stress off of stuff while installing them onto the pullies; I'd imagine that's where some of the tendencies for developing problems with yoohoo belts are coming from. LOL infact, while installing the Napa belt on my 20B, I could hear some of the cords snaping inside. I decided to remove the belt to test-fire the engine with an alternator (and belt) instead. I felt the new Napa belt's tension would be too much for dry bearings.
Is Blake Qualley still around?
