I ran into another problem, does anyone know what it is?

I had my car running for about 15-20min. I exahust got really hot, I mean like red hot. There was smoke coming up where the window switches are. So I looked under the car and the catalitic convertor was red and smoking. I new the exahust got hot but I didn't think that hot. Does anyone know what is going on here?

thanks

Your cat might be clogged. Don't you have heat shielding around your cat, or did you take it off?

2 possibilities... The clogged cat as mentioned. Another possibility is a blown apex seal letting raw gas into the line and then it's burning there. I've seen that happen myself. If it runs totally fine them I'd put my money on the cat.

I cant imagine how gas would get into the oil. Check though to see if its gone now that you changed the oil. Gasoline will thin the oil and make it much less effective as a lubricant.
