I need you to measure something

Original Engine Pulley, I don't know if it's FB or FC. But I am pretty sure it
is the FB one.

Here are the pulleys, in order from left to right, the stock pulley's are:

Pulley Sleeve 1
1) Main/water pump/alternator
Pulley Sleeve 2
2) Main/water pump/Air Pump (although I use it as a double alternator one)
Pulley Sleeve 3
3) Main / Power Steering
Pulley Sleeve 4
4) Main / Air - Conditioner

Here is the pulley attachment that goes onto the Main Pulley pictured earlier.

I will need your help in measuring the one on your car.

Let me explain why:

The part above has the pulleys for the A/C and power steering,
and many people aren't using theirs because they don't run A/C or P/S, although I definitely plan to.

Here is a blurry picture of what that additional pulley piece looks like when installed on the car's main pulley.

Now, what I do know is – that this additional pulley does NOT bolt up directly to the main engine pulley. I will have to slot some of the holes to make it fit. That’s one of the reasons I think it’s from a 2nd Gen RX-7.

Here is the pulley attached from the same angle as before, so you can see how far it sticks out. (almost an extra pulley sleeve’s length)

See how the A/C Pulley doesn't align properly with the lower Pulley? The lower Pulley sticks too far out because it's the wrong one. Again, I am pretty sure that it’s from a 2nd Gen. Also, this is why I originally couldn’t fit the Black Magic Fan.

What I need from my Forum Brothers:
Go out to your car, and measure the additional pulley on your RX-7

I don’t care if it’s inches, millimeters, centimeters, or whatever. I just need to know the following when you get back to me:

Year: (82/85)
Car Model: (GSL, S, GS, GSL-SE, etc)
Power-steering: (Yes or No)
Air Conditioning: (Yes or No)
Measurement: (3 inches, 5 inches, 25mm, etc.)

The reason I ask for all the above information is because I believe there are several variants of these pulleys. I am not sure but...

Some may have an A/C sleeve, but no P/S sleeve.
Some may have a P/S sleeve, but no A/C sleeve
Some may have neither or no additional pulley.
Some cars have a different A/C compressor, so mounting may be different. (I believe SE’s)

When I figure out which is the right one, then I will order it from Mazda.

Thanks in advance for your help. I need to get this squared away so I can keep my Black-Magic Fan, as well as keep my A/C and P/S.

Mine has a single "auxiliary" pulley that used to run the A/C (now removed) that measures 15/16" using the specified parameters. My car is an '80 (SA) model with NO power steering. Looking at your photo, it seems like you want one that is not extended like the one in the photo. I was trying to figure out what you meant by pulley "sleeve", are you referring to the "sheaves" of the pulley? Good luck with it. -Mike

Why arent you using the 5 rib version of the cosmo pulley, it has the 2 v belts on the outside to help you with the AC and the Pwr steering...

BTW: FWIW the 12A and 13b's pulley have different timing marks, im unsure how much but they are DIFFERENT...

OK, DF, I'm at 3/4 inch, single V grove, i'm 82 GS,A/C, no P/S. BTW, where did you get that pulley from ?? that MF
IS wide, tall, whatever,,. I'd say if you could, go cog belt/pulley setup, or serpintine, you know 1 large belt and maybe 1 or 2 V belts. IMO

Just went out to the cold garage (you owe me )
1.6"s for a '84 gsl-se pulley
What happened to your -se pulley? Sell it with the engine
That pulley that you have there deff looks like a FC one. Have one in the garage, looks the same.
12A pulley. It has room for 3 belts but only had 2 on the car from the factory (no a/c or p/s). I thought it was kind of funny that they bolted on that extra pulley even though the car didn't need it.

Yes Mike, thanks. I couldn't remember the right word, and my mind kept coming up with "sleeve" for some reason.

I still might end up going that route, depending on where they line up.

Maybe, I can't freaking find it anywhere!
Are you saying the little dual "SHEAVE" Extra pulley for the P/S and A/C is only 1.6"? That one would bolt up to the the main engine pulley already on the engine right?

I did your "measure here" deal and on the -se pulley I have in the garage, it's 1.6". Thats called a sheave?

The last part of my post was refering to a 12a engine I have in my garage. I was just rambling.

Oh yeah, I'll trade you my -se pulleys for a set of those bad *** fuel rails you had made. Seems fair haha, I wish!

Okay Mike, I switched everything over to the Cosmo pulley, but I cant find the outside pulley with the two "V" sheaves to run the A/C and P/S. I looked at some of your old pics, and you don't seem to have yours installed.

Yours appears to have a 5 rib, then a 4 (or 3 rib) sheeve. I don't see any "V" sheave on yours.

Do you have a pic of it? Beacause I can't find that ****** anywhere.

I can almost bet the piece missing is the same as the one I posted earlier. After careful playing around with it, it appears that this piece:

Is in fact the Cosmo one that you are referrng to. If it is, then it doesn't align properly with the A/C or P/S either.

Which brings me back to:

I GUESS I NEED THE FRONT PULLEY off of GSL-SE with A/C and P/S?

UPDATE:

UPDATE:

I got the 4 pulley sheaves put in now, and they are all aligned. I got them off an old 12A, but used the main pulley off the 13B.

I did have to drill a couple of the holes to align properly, because the difference with 86+ pulleys, but it looks and works perfect now.

The problem with the Black Magic Fan still persists. I was able to fit it all, but there is less than 1/4 inch of clearance. I don't feel comfortable with that.

The Spal 30100231 16" High Performance Fan-Pull Straight Blade looks like a close replacement, and would give me more room.
