I need the part number for the metering oil connecting rod bracket
Hi guys,
It is a little before midnight, I have to go to work in less then six hours and I am about 20 minutes from home... It is one of those rare times when I am in my 85 gsl-se and my wife is in our 2007 honda fit sport. No one is around and we are side by side at a red light. She always wanted to test those 2 cars against each other... (we all know she has no chance but why not ;-) It happens tonight.
I rev at 7000 and drop the clutch. The lsd does it work and makes the car leap forward like in is in a giant sling shot. I am ahead and pass second speed, pedal to the metal and oh! oh! ... No power! I pull to the curb and check the vital signs...
The idle is perfect, put when i give gas, the engine refuses to go over 2000 rpm, like it receives no gas... I abandon the car and come back the next day.
The accelerator cable is connected to some kind of cylinder next to where it says RE-EGI. To the other end of that cylinder is a bracket to which is attach the oil metering connecting rod that goes down under the air pump (i know, dead weight!) This upper bracket is made of a piece of metal to which is connected a small (half a inch) metal cylinder with a hole in the middle. The rod igoes in that that hole. Well, it seems that this small cylinder, which seems to be riveted to the bracket, has come loose and the hole itself is now bented, so the connecting rod gets a lot of play from two places, which caused it to get jamed, thus killing the engine.
I was able to bring the car back home by restricting that play with a tie-wrap but i am now looking for that small cylinder or the entire bracket. My mazda dealer says they do not carry the parts listings anymore so can please someone tell me the part number or even tell me how to acquire a parts number cd as i will surely need it in the future.
Thank you very much

thanks for the info.
I found the connecting rod on page 51 on the 84-85 engine parts number but i cannot locate the bracket to which it is mounted. It is probably my lack of experience but i am a little lost...
