I need help proving a fool wrong about RX engines!!
Ok this guy got wind of I have a first gen, and he start rolling off bullshit its proven not a single first gen lasts over 100k miles and a rebuild kit doesnt last more then 70k. Also that they dont make steal apex seals ( I showed him the mazdatrix site afterwords) he's making me upset, please lets hear something that proves him wrong

first gens have been known to go past 200000 miles without major problems as long as they are taken care of. people think they arent reliable because alot of them havent been taken care of and just like any car if its not taken care of it will fall apart. if it has a good owner tho the first gen rx7 will last a looooooong time
edit: i bet the majority of the first gens on here are over 100k

exactly...people who talk **** bout 7's are stupid...time and again we've proved em wrong...a rebuild kit won't last u more than 70k...why because the dumb **** who blow their motors after rebuilds soo soon, blow em cuz they redline the **** out of a fresh motor and kill it rite there...i had a war with my boinger engine mechanic uncle cuz he told my dad not to buy me my rex

163k, then sat for four years, then un-carbon-locked, and running again! Same engine.
Rebuilds dont' tend to last as long as the original engine because when you machine the housings you take off the layer of the material Mazda put on there to help prolong the life of the housings. Still.. they're known to last pretty long on the rebuilds.

My 79 has 91k and he's trying to "warn" me about it. Im like ****, go rice your civic out or something. I hate it when he says ****, cause he knows everything. I told him that they use rotarys in boats, airplaines, heli's and even rc cars and trucks( I saw the new engines at a hobby shop this weekend, i was like wtf?) anyway, he's dumb and i'm gonna prove him wrong and when i get the money, my car will walk from his civic with lowering springs, rims, shitty $500 aftermarket muffler and his dumb *** that sits in it.

Yeah, shutup kid.
Denny on the forum has over 200k on his -SE, I think it's closer to 300k actually, but I'm not sure. Original motor, never rebuilt, still runs strong. My engine has 130k, and I'll see how much longer it lasts with 10psi on it

I'm pushing 200k miles. Then I might decide to rebuild and put street or bridge port on it!
One thing to tell him is that 1.3 liters yields ~130 horses (in an SE) and has a redline of 7000 RPM--bash the age of the car in his head too. No car that age would compare to the awesome-ness of a rotary (many cars today can't even compare to the redline and power per liter of a rotary). Also mention that a rotary has less than half of moving parts in a conventional boinger engine, meaning less chance of something going wrong and thus lasting longer. Rotaries are much more efficient!
If these reasons don't work, I'll be happy to shove my foot up his ***.

Damn, it did start!
I hit the 200k mark two years ago. My only problems were Carbuerator related.
Ask him how a car with only 3 major moving parts can be unreliable compared to a piston car? My audi broke it's timing belt. had to replace the head. expensive as ****. And then maintenance for a piston engine is not cheap. Replacing a timing belt is a PITA at best. and expensive if you take it to a shop. My engine still sounds smooth, unlike all other high mileage 80's cars.
Just keep the oil clean and change your fuel filter. you will be golden.

Well I have had my 1st gen, series II, for 2 months now. It has 388,487.8 klm on the clock. It was (apparently) rebuilt 80 k ago (kilometres). . . . How would I tell if its been done or not?

I have 170k+ on my engine and drivetrain right now. I still can push it past 8k rpm, and all she does is get a little hot. These are just about the most durable engine out there I feel.

I have an 84 se with 182k its running fine. I redline it often. If the guy needs proof of the rotary lasting I can send him a picture of my odometer and I am sure others could do the same.

The motor I pulled out for the V8 swap had 186,000 and still ran strong as crap. The secondaries were stuck shut though..... talk about sloooooooooooow.
Our club race car is a GSL and has 210,000 miles with the last 30,000 nothing but race miles. It still runs great and will last a long time. I'd venture to say probably nothing but maybe a Honda engine would have put up with the same abuse we give that 12a. It's really impressed me.

152K before my first overheated engine went
This reminds me a lot about the Mac/PC issue. Most of the arguments are based on ignorance - from what one person heard another say - not from personal experience. Or better yet, people who used a Mac once 15 years ago and are going from faulty personal recollection. Since I use a Mac and run a rotary, I have lots of experience in arguing against ignorant people - trust me when I say that it's no picnic

Pratch: I said to a friend of mine "I have never minded macs, I just couldn't get use to lack of a second mouse button! The day I can use a mac with a two button optical scroll mouse, I might consider buying one"... So he brought me to his place, and handed me his mouse and said "there"...
Okay, so I'm still on the PC, but at least now I've learned *how* to use a mac. I never did bash 'em, and OSX is awesome, since it's Unix-based.. I'm a big Unix-Linux fan.. Still run stupid Windoze tho, 98, XP and RedHat in a tri-boot config.
