Question I need brake rotors, where to go??

I need brake rotors for my FB. In a store down here they're selling me brembros for 55 each. Is this a good price or does anyone know a cheaper alternative??. Damn, what's the deal with those rotors, I had never seen that the hub and rotor come together right...that sucks why did mazda do that??dammit!...and they're so expensive at my job, Wearever doesn't make them and Bendix charges 73.09 for EACH!!

$55 is a good price, brembros are good. i just picked up a set my self.

i dont think your going to find rotors any cheaper than that unless you get some at a junkyard.

also be prepared to swap out the bearings. thers a washer, inner bearing, outerbearing, and a wheel seal. its a lot more work then the newer cars.

I did mine a while back and swapped the bearings at the same time.... I'd recommend it... It's easy to do while you're in there and won't cost you an arm and a leg more.

1st gen 1984/1985 Brembo rotors are a very interesting deal. A couple months ago I ordered "Brembo" rotors specifically through a local parts house for a quoted price of $30 each. The rotors that showed up had a number along with the word "Japan" stamped on the outside diameter of the flange that the wheel bolts to. The material seperating the inner & outer rotor surface was not the "Pillar venting type" discussed within the "Brembo" site. "Brembo" manufactures nothing in Japan. They have a sales org in Japan. They came sealed in the "Brembo" boxs. Told the parts house guy of my suspicion that they were not "Brembo". He checked with his supplyer & they sent another set. The second set had the word "Brembo" & the Brembo logo stamped on the outside diameter of the rotor & they had the "Pillar venting. These I beleive are "Brembo" rotors.

There is a company from China by the name of Brambo the sells their rotors in red & white box that is a "Brembo" box knockoff per the people at "Brembo".

theres another company called Bradi... the story behind them is that the guy who owns Bradi is brothers with the guy who owns brembo or friends of him or something. They split apart and started their own companies, but use the same techniques or whatever makes brembo good.

So SUPPOSEDLY Bradi is just as good. We put one on the race car last year and so far it hasnt cracked.

Have any of you guys that race auto x or track days, have you ever messed with drilling your own rotors with a drill press? I have some VW buddies that have done it with good results. I was thinking about giving it a try, i counted the internal ribs and i will just make a pattern on cad with the same number so that i dont drill through any of the rib vents that would ruin the integrity. Does this sound like a cheap alternative to the 150 a piece factory ones?

If you drew it out in autocad and got all your spacing right and do it like you're planning, you can just print out the fullsize picture and slap it on the rotor. Drill away. I'm sure it would work. Make sure to countersink each hole a couple thousandths so the rotor doesn't act as a cheesegrater.

specRX7 22, go to www.trader@brembo.com & view their visual info on pillar venting. Instead of the rectangular or spiral pillar they have a buch of individual pillars of different shapes.

Drilling/sloting rotors is a another story. What are you looking for ? If your doing it for weight savings its wasted time compaed to the total rotor weight. For some pads it will do nothing, for some pads it will allow the pads to de-gass. Many race pads do not have a de-gassing issue.
