I managed to make 8 people mad in 3 minutes!

I had one of our techs inspect the cats on my '85 SE. We found that the first cat was broken apart and had clogged the second cat. He removed the entire exhaust system and forced me to start the 7. I had never heard a rotary uncorked before, loud, very, very loud. But beautiful. We decided it would be best to drive the car around the block to make sure everything "checked out".

While driving through the auto mall, running through the gears at nearly full throttle everybody we passed was taking notice of the very loud RX7. Funny, nobody looked too terribly pleased.

Yes, a meaningless post, but I throughly enjoyed the experience.

Exactly, I was about to pull out onto Thousand Oaks Blvd., thought twice and drove the car down Automall Dr. next to the 101 Fwy.

Way too much fun watching the reactions from folks buying their new Hummers, Escalades and BMW's.

The exhaust will be re-installed in about an hour.

Trust me, you have to do it. If I would have known the 7's sound like this un-corked, I would have done it a long time ago.

Personally, I say YOU FAIL, hokay?

Let's look at this from a mathematical standpoint, hokay?

3 minutes = 180 seconds. hokay? 180 seconds / 8 people = ratio of 1 person pissed off every 22.5 seconds. hokay?

Now I personally know I can do 1 person every 2 seconds in a crowded area, hokay? and without an exhaust or a car at all. hokay?

True, However, It's a holiday weekend and early, around 10AM. So there were not too many people on dealers lots.

I will try harder next time............hokay!

At first I used to scare the crap out of my neighbors, now they have gotten used to it. One of them told me "Oh, I guess Jerry got that one running". They are also used to the smoke, they see the "Indian cloud" and they don't worry no more, they know it's an RX-7 beginning to run again. I guess when I move to the bigger house I have to break in new neighbors all over again.

What is the matter with us??? How can something that is loud and obnoxious as the sound of an uncorked rotary engine be 'beautiful', even to someone who has never heard one before?

Many years ago when my brother in law had first introduced me to his street ported RX-3, he told me (tongue in cheek) that the rotarhead was the strange member in a family. I have to agree

Nothing to my ears is automotive music like a rotary engine at full song.

What is "hokay" ? Do you mean "okay" ? And, why do you use it after every sentence?

And, now I've gotta test my car out with no exhaust. My catalytic will be needing replacing soon, when I take it off, I'm gonna rip through the gears as well to see what kind of reactions I get.

The least exhaust I've run on any of my cars was just a single tiny resonator and one cat with no cat-back section at all and THAT was waaaaay too loud.

Gosh, man! Its called a sense of humor.

At least Mike got it, and it was directed directly at him. So Mike, you have a Subaru too? A local guy near me also has a first gen and an Impreza WRX with the STi goodies. I wonder why they go hand in hand so much.

'Gosh man', yourself. No need to get all defensive all over it because you made it too subtle and hard to figure out. Have a smile and a Coke.

I was "forced" to run wide open too. I blew the seal between the manifold and precat doing a "run". I removed the precat and drove the ~10miles to the auto parts store and back. Nice to see the flames too.

I had perfectly drivable truck at the time, but I deamed it nessasary to drive the 7.

It's because all-wheel-drive is not as fun as rear-wheel drive! The rotary and the boxer engines are also both unique.

For some odd reason, the same goes for supercharged/turbocharged miatas. STi/WRX & RX7 or STi/WRX & FI'd miata.

Mike

I've got a half finished header on mine, two pipes about 18" in length, this will make the ears hurt after about 5500RPM.

when you hit redline with openheader your eyes start vibrating so bad you cant see straight its crazy

oh yea and a uncorked rotary INSIDE the muffler shop sounds INSANE!!!!!!

In a piston eng. when running open header they say that the cold air comming back up the header after shutting the car off can warp a valve. Does anybody know if the rotary can have the same type of issue, but with an apex seal?

*shakes fist*

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that having the airpump running full time will get me to pass.
