I Love Widebands!!!!!

yea, finally got my wideband in today... i learned a whooole lot about my car. **** yes.... IT'S REDICULOUSLY LEAN UNDER BOOST! AHHHHHHHHHHH hitting as high as 18.1 (i only let it get to that point once) anything over 6psi it just starts climbing up the afr scale. here's what's really f'd up. anything under 3500 rpms is around 10.1 and sometimes even goes off the chart (just says "rich") hahah. so yea, this is the lose. i was able to tune it out a bit, and my god it made a difference in performance. the car gets crazy even on 7psi. over that it's getting way too lean. sooo, i dunno what to do. i'm already running the biggest jet made for this carb (50sk side draft) and i really dont want to start drilling jets cause then things are just out of control. ugh. i guess i can try the F16 e-tubes and go from there. anywho, GET A WIDEBAND IF YOU DONT ALREADY HAVE ONE!!!!! i'm so lucky i haven't popped my motor yet. ****** carb

this is mine...

unfortunately you are more than right. it's sad tho, if i had this when i first got this carb i would be running beautifully now. it's a very overlooked tuning tool.

Even for basic tuning it could be a useful tool for getting a car to pass emissions testing. It will let you get the A/F ratio just right. We all know how hard it is to get these cars to pass emissions some times.

FBII- I fully agree its a great tuning tool. Your post would be understood by all who do their own tuning. I hope significantly less than than 90% of FB owners get a rotary shop to tune their car, in fact I am always surprised how many gen 1 owners can rebuild their engine. Perhaps the ability to strip down a rotary is one of the great joys of owning one.

Widebands are invalueable for tuning. What FPR are you running and fuel pump are you using?

i'm using the aeromotive 1:1 rate fpr. its only a month old and works great. fuel pressure is rising with boost (gauge is seen while driving). fuel pump is an msd efi unit. 40psi .. in the carb i am running 160 air bleeds; F-11 e-tubes; and 240 main jets. it's a 50 sk side-draft.

Have you considered using a rising rate regulator?

it raises the boost 1psi for every lb/boost. if you are talking about getting something like a 3:1 or 5:1 then i dunno. that might be just a bit much. lol! the wideband i am using is a PLX device. i linked to it in my first post. it's bad *** and the best bang for the buck. OH and... anyone got a set of F-16 emulsion tubes they want to get rid of???

Widebands are the only way to tune. I have been tuning cars for a while now, I own 3 of them. I have one in all of my cars, and I have one that I use for street tuning. Anyone with a turboed car should have one, or they are asking for trouble in my opinion.

I like the LM-1. Its gonna be my gift to myself. Using the dual narrowbands and dual EGT's is not an easy way to tune. Also it logs the data so I dont have to observe the gauges while making a run.

yea, the plxdevice has datalogging as well. check out the software, shows everything in 3d maps if you prefer. the lm-1 was my second choice, this is a little easier on the eyes haha.

Have you considered using a different carb? Maybe something with a couple more barrels.

If the etubes don't help richen it up, go for some smaller air bleeds.

Other than the PLX, what other wideband O2 sensors are there out there?

I'm just looking for a basic sensor + gauge. I don't have a turbo system, but it would be damn nice to be able to nail my a/f ratio spot-on, especially since I'm going to be playing with jets on my BananaCarb this year
