I love my 1st gen!
I know this has been posted many times before...but,
I love my 1st gen
I drove a 2nd gen, have been a passenger in a third gen, but to be honest..... i would take my 1st gen over both of them
There is something about my baby, that i love so much, that i could never get rid of her.
She may be slower (for now) then 2nd and 3rd gens, but, she is much more fun to drive
Switching over to mechanical secondaries last night, reminded me how much i love her.
I know, i know...... we heard it all before blah, blah, blah.
But, i just thought i would share anyways

I'm touched. *sniff*
I think it's safe to say we all love our Rotaries, whether they are r100's, to the Rx8's!
But to me, the Rx7's of 1979 - 85 have the most character, the traditonal rotary presence that we all live for and love. That's not to say that I won't ever get a S6 though!

Personally I like mine, but Its my bitch and I drive it as such. No kidding, I always ride her hard. However, its given me much pleasure and much pain at the same time. So if it takes care of me when I ask, I take care of it. Ah, anyone else seeing some parrellels here?... these cars are like stereotypicalized hot women, take and take and take much maintance, and give one hell of a ride.

The gen 1 is a nice character car, a real 1970s product bypassed by time. Its a great car to cruise with but without any pretence for modern handling or performance without extensive modification.
I love both of mine as antiques, but the R34 family car leaves them way behind while sin of sins I find driving my daughter's Honda CRX great fun, a real rocket with its VTEC engine. I love the targo top.
Its not that I am knocking the RX-7 but lets be honest and place it in a historical perspective. As a student I loved my Lotus Elan, kept many fond memories of its performance, but trying one out recently made me realize how far car designers have come in the past 40 years.
My ambition is to own a historic car collection, the RX would be my pick for the late 70s example.

I'm the spoiled bitch with the pleasure of both the FB and FD. Hate to say it, but I gotta lean towards the FD here . But I still love the 1st gen too. It's kinda like a go kart. Not extremely fast, but fun to toss around. Tail happy, but controllable. But, I currently can't drive the FB on the street, so it may have to go ......

Totally disagree, driving a vert is whole new sensation.
I own 2 FBs, and prefer the vert every time I cruise.
Te reality is its noisier with the top down driving above the legal street limit, its slightly slower in a straight line drag but if that was a problem why have a FB in the first place, its slightly heavier but I still get 28mpg.
I love the shape of the vert. If I as racing then a coupe would be the only way to go as being box shape it has more rigidity perweight unit. But I get no real pleasure from driving with a fullface helmet and ear plugs
Verts went out of fashion some 20 years ago, apart from in Hollywood films! But now with the totallyboring nature of closed in driving are right back but at a cost. All the top makers like BMW and Alfa are now producing vert models at a premium because people are realising the joys of open top motoring. There not intended foe traffic light drag races against ricers, poisoned by trafic fumes.
The FC was a poor move until it ot a decent engine to compensate for all the extra weight used to get it into the luxury market as against bing a real sports car. Its just that the Americans never got the Turbo vert which is a great performance car with the 200hp engine. It will leave all stock gen 1s behind as historic has beens.
I get ten times as much comment on how good my vert looks compared with the stock FB- the poor man's 944!
Its a great mystery, so many people on the forum praise the FB as a fantastic car then list the pages of body and engine modifications they have poured money into to bring the car up to a decent standard.
I would be first to raceinto the showroom if they brought out a FD vert, but till then will keep the FB with the top down or at least until the targa version of the 350Z comes out.
Long live the vert and real driving experience!
