Unhappy i killed the electrical system

ok, i was going to work today and when i got in my car to start i turned the key to the "on" position.
All the idiot lights came on like normal, then i tried to start the car and everything turned off.

now when i take the key out the clock works and nothing else, but when i put the key in the on position everything turns off, nothing works at all.

and when the key is off ONLY the clock works, not the lights or anything.

the car is an 84 GSL-SE.

What could have happened?

Check the battery connections. Make sure they're tight.

Fusable links

Potential that you drained the battery somehow.

Thats happened to me a couple of times. The firs time that happened, the alt belt was loose. My accessories would turn off and on really quick when I hit the brakes because I wasn't getting enough charge. The other time I had to clean the battery connections and retighten because for some reason it wasn't getting a good contact.
