Smile I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance

All first gens are 20+ years old now this year. Mine being a 85, I couldn't wait till 2005 to insure mine under Hagerty's classic car insurance, since they have to be 20 years old or more.
My premium is now 125.00 a year with an agreed value of 6,000. It can't be your daily driver, has to be kept/stored in locked garage. All I had to do was send a few pictures. I haven't read thru all the fine print yet, so I don't think there is any milage restrictions. I stated I drive it about 3,000 miles a year and that didn't seem to be a problem when they called to make sure I wasn't using it to drive to work everyday.

I thought about starting a thread like this just to see what others are paying to insure their sevens.

My insurance co. quoted me $60/month, but lowered the premium on my truck by $40/month with the multi-car discount. So I was pretty happy with the $20/month it is costing me for a $100,000/$300,000 policy.

Hagerty's just quoted me $160/year - which is very sweet - but the policy coverage is only $10,000/$25,000 with no medical. I rarely take the car out, so I'm now debating if I need all that coverage on my current policy.

It's up to the underwriter. Grundy took mine, but I had some other cars insured with them already. (It was less than 20 years old at the time also.)

It never hurts to ask.

I always heard good things about Grundy, but I got the feeling they really never cared if they sold a policy or not.
Few minutes ago Hagerty just made a follow-up call with me just to let me know my policy was in force since Feb. 4th and should receive my papers soon.
I'm impressed!

My dad just got Hagerty insurance on his 1963 T-Bird Convertible. I think it works with most insurance agencies. We have Allstate for the rest of the cars.

That's the cost of my insurance (liability) for two cars right now every month. Hagerty says $262/yr. at $5,000 value for my '85 (I'm 23). only 25/50 liability though, I carry 50/100 now so I can ram into just about anything I feel like.
Not too damn bad, that's just the online quote though, but I've never had a a claim or a wreck (with another car, hehe), I wonder what the milage limitaions are.

I really wish I didn't live in Louisiana...

Right now, the fact that I was quoted at nearly $5,000/yr for insurance is what is keeping me from getting my full license. Being a 16 year old male in southern Louisiana (highest insurance rates in the nation, IIRC) with a sports car (nevermind the fact that it is 20 years old) and no job really gives insurance companies an opportunity to get a running start before they take a leap into anally penetrating me. Srsly. It blows.

I think what I am going to have to do to actually be able to afford it is to get my grandfather to sign up with some fly-by-night cheap-o insurance company and just pay through him. This, of course, will only occur after I actually find a job; which, has proven quite difficult.

So, to all of you guys paying ~$80 a month: I envy you. To anyone else in my position: please tell me what you did to make your insurance affordable.

*Sigh*

the car's in your parents name right?
Unless louisiana has crazy laws the insurance should be pretty cheap for them and you'll be covered too for a little bit more. A FB is not on the list with turbo cars, v-8 mustangs, viper, etc.
I assume you're talking about full coverage, liability is the same for me if I have a FB or a FD. And it's also the same as my '87 nissan sentra 4 door (not se-r).
Do you reallly need full coverage?

Yes, the car is my father's name. I will only have liability. The insurance company says that the only way I can get on my parent's plan is if I sign on for the vehicle of their choice (AKA the most expensive vehicle on the plan.) What vehicle would that be? My father's 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Even if they chose my mother's car, I'd still be screwed because she has a 2004 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT.

I still don't fully understand insurance companies and the way they work; all I know is that I want to find the cheapest way to get my *** on the road with liability coverage.

How they work is simple......charge as much as they can and try as hard as possible to not pay out. It's all about them making as much money as they can.

what i did when i had to pay out of my *** for insurance was left the car under my parents name and canged my license to my grandparents address. So if i were to crash i would fall under the uninsured motorist which meant that if someone from another household was driving your car they would be insured automatically. i live in Miami, FL where i still pay $200.00 a month for a liability with a fly by night company

My 1983 is ~$130 per year for $10,000 coverage. Grundy and Hagerty have usually given me similar quotes. The minimum liability is $300,000, which might vary by state. Neither company limits the number of miles cars can be driven.

My insurance runs me $170/mo. with all deductibles at zero on a full coverage 100/300/100 policy. But, my '75 ford Pickup (liability only) is on the policy as the main vehicle, (it lowers the class rating for both vehicles.)

I'm only paying $450/6 months coverage on my 93. Which is really great, but the part that scares me is that if a dumpster gets dropped on my car, I get a pathetic check from Geico for blue-book, ie, like $6000.

So I called up Grundy in an attempt to get agreed value (which after almost completely restoring my car, should be around $20k-$25k). Grundy basically slammed the door in my face. "We don't cover Mazda's yet... they don't appreciate enough". WTF! What difference does it make to them. I give them money... they give me a policy... it's not like a mortgage... they aren't going to have to recoup expenses if I default. Not happy.

The nice thing about Grundy is that they have no mileage restrictions. I like to drive my car, that's why a bought it... so even though I have 2 cars... I'll put 8-10k mi. on it a year. I read a few companies FAQ's, like Hagerty. They're like... "Well, I guess it's okay if you want to drive your car 2 miles and show it off for a few hours...". American Heritage gives you a whopping 2500 a year. Oooh.

So... what do I do.

I think your 93 is too new. I believe cars need to be 15-20 years old before companies like that insure you.
