i have a problem!!!
my 84 gsl isn't starting.... i just bought a new starter and it still won't start. when you crank it, it just makes a click noise. and when i cross wire the starter it cranks up. so it's somthing between the starter and ingintion. i think it's might be a blown fuse but i don't know.can someone help me get my car back on the road again..
thanks,
Cory

I haven't touched my starter in a couple of years, but if you cross a GM starter and it bumps, then your solenoid is shot. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's actually a good unit. I seem to barely remember there being two posts on the rex starter and a big one for the battery cable. You only use one, so maybe the wrong terminal is hooked up? I'm just guessing at this because it has been a while....

You battery cables are a VERY likely culprit... My -SE had the same problem...
I replaced both cables and BANG! No more problem....
Does your Volmeter brop to 4-8 volts when you try to crank the car?
There's a site on how to use generic cables to replace the custom Mazda ones, but it's fairly straight forward except for hooking up the fusible links and the chassis AND engine grounds...
