Yes, but it's sitting on the floor next to all the other stuff that hasn't been installed yet.

I have the CP Rack and Pinion Kit
I dont particularly like the worm drive steering but I just installed a brand new steering box and column because mine was worn beyond adjustment and the nylon rivets had worn out on my 225000 mile chassis. My god it feels like a whole new car.
I love to modify my car all the time but I try to keep the safety parameters stock (I dont know how many of you have seen a rex wrecked at moderate speed , but in my opinon they are constructed safer than most new cars. the passenger compartment holds it overall shape in most cases)
peace

Yes Damon, I will have to agree with you. I know quite a few people who have wrecked their 7's in many different ways and the cockpit tends to keep its shape well, no serious injury among my friends, also no rollovers, so I cant report about that type of wreck though.
Although this might be a repost but a guy on another RX-7 site did a mini review of the CP rack and I thought you guys might want to see it. My appologies if this is a repost:

Steering getting worse
My pin has collapsed so my steering wheel telescopes three inches and I can move the wheel side to side four inches with no wheel movement..
A guy PM me and has a way around this problem. (Mine is tightened and cannot be tightened anymore) He has remanuf ones and will sell me one for 225.. so I am going to get it and let you guys know.

I'm not happy at all to hear that the turning radius is reduced. I was worried that would happen with a FWD car's rack. It looks like CP has some more work to do.

I can only think that these kits have been flying off the shelves. Supply and demand. Oh well. My concern is that they don't list the stage 1 anymore. I hope they still offer it because I've been collecting parts.
I was hesitant before, duly pointing out that many SCCA trophies back in the day had been won with the stock set-up....I can see a lot more areas in the rex that could use improvements with those dollars well before going to the steering box...13 3/4" wheel and tighten the box pretty much puts it 90% of what you'll gain with rack and pinion, so better to spend the dollars elsewhere, like on a Sterling/Carl carb...
Having said that, I tip my hat to them for addressing this area of the market for 1stgen RX-7s. To all those groaning about the price, a similar kit for the '67-'68 GM F-bodies costs $1000!!........and you gotta know a real gearhead would write a poll that includes this line, "Yes, but it's sitting on the floor next to all the other stuff that hasn't been installed yet."...lol...story of any pack-rat gearhead's life....I've got shelves of stuff for all three cars and now I lack the time as a father to get on these projects like I should. But it always seems like there's just "some reason" why we don't do them right away, no matter where you find yourself in life, nicht war?

The hesitation isn't only due to the price.
In thoery, it's easy to imagine the perfect rack&pinion system that everyone would want. Why not? In execution, there are sacrifices in manufacturing and assembly that bring up deliberation and debate. This would happen with any product. It sure sounds like CP is selling them though.

I would buy one ... but they don't do a right hand drive version
looks like I'm making my own ... doesn't look to hard considering all the dimensions can be pulled from either the car or the steering rack.

Not me...look, it's no chore to hit the junkyard and find a car that took a hit in the back and has been sitting a while...the steering box is sealed very good, so pull the junkyard sucker and bolt it on...more than likely, it has NEVER been adjusted in its previous usage, a thought that will be especially true if you find a wreck that looks completely bone-stock. You get the afore-mentioned aftermarket wheel, adjust the play out of the steering box and you've now got 90% of the "feel" of a rack and pinion set-up. And it's cheap. And you can detail the frame and box while everything's out for the bling thing. And you get the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself and you recycled a part saving more of our planet's limited resources. If you think about such things, that is...it's all win-win and did I mention cheap?? You can save the $$$ for a quality, new-tech Mallory Comp110 fuel pump that you will most definitely need down the road as you further your speed ambitions for your RX-7..
