First question you should ask is what's more important at this time, looks or performance?
How about what condition is the rest of the vehicle in? Reliability should be the most important. Performance is great but if you are not comformtable with the way your vehicle
looks than address that first. rx7doctor

You need to decide what mods you plan to do in the future. If you want to go turbo, then don't waste your money on an exhaust now. Get a weber or dellorto sidedraft carb, then save up for the rest of the turbo stuff. If you're gonna keep it n/a, then get the RB streetport exhaust and save up more $ for a carb.

exhaust for sure. once you do the exhayst, you get a better bang for the buck on all subsequent performance mods.

I'll sell you a stock tII turbocharger for $600... well I usually sell them for about $250 but for you, special price!
just bolt it on and there you go, turbocharged car.

you don't have to deal with fuel mods if you don't actually connect it to anything.... I don't think that performance increases much that way though.

there are a pile of things you can do for $600.

what to do really depends on what you want.

MY $600 upgrade list: (improves performance in all areas)

Get a 2.25" exhaust built at your local muffler shop, get a decent muffler on it. There goes about $150-$200, depending on what you end up with. Possible to do it for about $100.

What are the tires like? Just crappy touring tires like 99% of FB's?
Go pick up some Falken Azenis Sport's.
There goes another $300-350 (13" tires are cheap, yay!)

After that, do a full tune up. cap plugs + wires, oil change, fuel and air filters.

Remove the flapper door in your airbox and the thing that controls it. Proven 5HP gain.

That should finish off your $600.

Get your header and pre-silencer and if your muffler is bad get a new one. This can all be had at www.racingbeat.com . The just get your emission crap off and get your Sterling carb. This is a really optimum N/A setup with a stock port engine. I'm not quite sure why nobody mentioned this yet. http://www.pbandjracing.com/ is the place to get your carb at. You'll have to email them about it. This is how I would spend my money. Also depending on what route you went with exuast, you'll need money for your carb after its modded.

since u are already buying from racing beat i would also buy a intake with my exhgust its i think around 50 and then get there filter too..................i bought a cat pipe,,muffler,,and intake (have to remove all emmsions before u install the intake) then with all that the intake helped and the muffler was good sounding then u can keep the hp intake and get a holly carb later down the road

like I said, I'll sell you all the stock S5 TII turbochargers you want for $600 each shipped..

don't think you can make a whole kit for that price though :P

All of you guys seem to be addressing power issues, but what about handling? and drivability?

Yeah that's what I'm referring to, $600 might give you a turbo, but not a turbocharged car.

As for drivability and handling, there might not be the greatest ever, but power is what stock 12A 1st gens lack the most, IMO.

get everyhing working properly before you put on go-fast parts. GOOD Tires, brakes, struts/springs, bushings, tie-rods. all the not fun stuff. its alot more fun to drive a fast car when you know its going to stop everytime.

I noticed the majority of responses so far have been 'Exhaust.' Would the cat-back Power Pulse Main Muffler from RB for $277 (looking for a direct link but the site is lamely framed) be worth it if the rest of the exhaust is still stock?

(For use in a daily driver.)

I got a mod that fits the season. Winter Tyres.

*Looks outside and notices 3 feet of snow on his car*

Wish I had Winter Tyres on my Winter 'Beater' RX-7.

UHMMMMM Robert was the right direction. Course after a responce like that your going to have to eat alot of cheese to get your price back to 600.00.

This is how I see it

I think you can do a turbo 12a for close to 600.00 if your very cheap and you do ALL the work yourself. I mean all of it, you have to weld the exhaust. Once someone else starts working on your car you can kiss the budget goodbye.

Lets see used 2nd gen turbo and manifold- 250~300ish
boost prep the nikki 150ish<--- I'm guessing on this one
carb hat 100
FPR cheapest mallory I have seen on the net 78
oil feed lines and fiting 40
oil return 3/4 in hose and fittings 30
Exhaust 150.00 ish
Total 848.00 ish

This is a rough estimate and can vary but it can be done.
