I got the title so here we go!
I have been pursuing a 1985 GS for a couple of years.
It is a one owner and has been garage kept most of its life.
It has 79k miles and is very nice for its age.
It has not run in 7 years so I need to pull the tank and rebuild the carb.
Now that it is in my garage and I have the title I am ready to start on it.
I understand there were two carbs that could be on it and they take different kits so
I wondered how to tell what I have if this is true.
I also wondered if any numerically lower gearing is available for the rear end.
Is the only thing that rear ever came in an RX-7 or did the early 626 have the same diff housing?
Thanks you for any advice about my new project.
ps when I was in High school my buddy got a beautiful RX-3 and it was pretty fast.
So I have had a soft spot for these ever since.

Welcome! Nice clean RX!!
Fuel tank: might need to be re-sealed if long storage with no proper fuel draining. Check out POR15's gas tank sealer kits. Would take removed tank to a rad shop and get a chem dunk to start - about $65
Carbs:
lots of choices and everyone has there fav:
Holleys modded by Racing Beat are well known; assort weber and Mikkuni setups are out there. Personal fav is modding the stock Nikki via
http://www.pbandjracing.com/
aka "Sterling" carb. One of the less expensive means of getting a nice performance boost and still a very good all-round driving experience. Carl & Sterling are regulars on this forum and well respected.
Bear in mind that to get the most out of the carb (whichever) - you should consider a header and peformance muffler set-up. My preference again is Racing Beat's. Straight-forward bolt in, years in production with very large user base, super quality, which is important because rotaries are hard on their exhaust systems. If your on a budget, I would recommend the exhaust first, carb upgrade later.
Enjoy and again, welcome!
