I got my BABY back!
After 6 months of sitting at the impound yard, my baby is coming home!
My 1985 Mazda RX-7 GS... the "Humpty Dumpty" is coming back to it's RIGHTFUL owner!
For those uninformed, here's the cliff's notes: my car got impounded november 12th, it sat while I was poor... they said it went to auction on february 16th... no one bought it... it sat some more.... the price got higher everyday... couldn't afford it, gave up on getting it back.... went to the impound yard on a hunch last weekend, saw it sitting there... they said it was sold to the junkyard, I beat the junkyard's offer... my car comes home
Yeah, I had to buy my car back, but for what it's worth, I'm looking at it optimistically, and seeing it as they kept it in locked/razorwired/german shepard'ed/videotaped storage for 6 months
I've been working my *** off doing 18+ hour days with no day off, detailing yachts, and finally I have enough money to not only get my car home, but to insure it, register it, and put some money away for a motor for it.
All I need now, is legal paperwork (tags, title, plates, etc.), a NEW motor, a combination switch (it's an 85 GS W/cruise), paint (1993 FD Montego Blue, or 2005 RX-8 Winning Blue), tailight lenses, and some other little stuff.
I AM HAPPIER THAN A PIG IN ****!

Congrats! I too, got my car from an impound lot, but it had been sitting there for almost a year. I guess the former owner did not love it as much as I do, and I bet you love yours even more, if that's possible. All it needed was a current tag, and they could have gotten it back. Guess they didn't want to come back to Oklahoma to pick it up. (out of state plates were expired, prolly only got impounded because the driver was not licensed either)
FWIW, it took 5 weeks for the paperwork to come back on mine. Luckily, the impound lot is owned by a freind, and he let me keep it there until I got the tag, so it wouldn't get towed by my apartment (mis)management.

it's just for show... a friend of mine runs a polishing/powdercoating business, my car was a test mule... he has all of my rear suspension pieces too... it's all powdercoated with "almost chrome" powder... it looks REALLY good...

what was the junk yard's offer? Junk yards usually will take a whole group of cars for $1000-$2000. The impound lot probably got tired of you hanging around there!
Congrats nonetheless, bet you felt 10 times better about this than a christian getting reborne.

Rims are on it, EVERYTHING is intact.
As far as longterm investments, I'll put more effort towards them when I can.... this was just a BIG chunk of money.

$42 to get your car back is what I call smart! There's mitsubishi eclipse in myparking lot, no loud muffler, but it has nice rims and and mitsubishi emblems all over it. It had a nice paint job too. Problem is everytime I see it, it has another dent. My red oxidized rx-7 gets less than a parking lot dent every three years. I say that having a piece of eye candy for a ride is a waste of $$$.
