Assuming you have access to the bolt, sometimes you can use Vise Grips to grip the head and pull while turning it, and that will be enough to get it started for removal.

You will have to re- thread it probably for a size bigger. Auto parts place should have a tool and die set.

try hammering a 6-point 14mm socket or a smaller size.

I've got a set of those Craftsman stripped head grabbers. I haven't used them yet, but they look like they should work on any stripped head.

I was helping him, so Ill fill you all in.

It is the front bolt (the long one) on the starter. We tried a vice grips, like chris already said, but that only ended up rounding the hex even more. Frusterated we went to wall-mart and wasted our money on some stupid gator grip socket. Neither of us really thought it would work, but we were out of ideas. Turns out it didnt work so well.

Someone recomended JB welding a socket to the bolt, but we wasted all our money on the stupid socket so tomorrow we will have another friend carefully weld the socket to the bolt.

If welding the socket dosent work out for whatever reason I would like to know for sure that the bolt in qusetion only threads into the starter. If I cut the head off the bolt will the starter come out?

Thanks for all your help.

the long bolt should slide right out if you cut the head off
