Huh?!?!?!?!
Huh?!?!?!?!
Would somebody explain to me why, contrary to what everyone says, the people at RacingBeat recommend the use of synthetic oils in rotaries? They claim their Royal Purple line of oil showed performance increases over regular oil. I am now very confused.
I am sure that the folks that make Royal Purple have a "understanding" with Racing Beat. They CLAIM that it does help, but improvements with engine oil is VERY difficult to prove on testimonal alone. I know that any engine will run "slightly" better with synthetic derived oils all things being equal with the exception of the metering system. Engines that make more power with a oil is hard to prove...how do you know what the added power is being compared to?
Example: test condition=>cold 20W-50 dyno run compared to hot 0W-30. Which one do you think will make more HP? Hardly anyone discloses all the test conditions and won't if it makes their product look better. This is why I have negative atitude of testimonals....

basically, synthetic is better due to less viscosity breakdown. but there is a belief that it shrinks gaskets etc and will cause other problems that will really affect a rotary. of course this is also hearsay, but from many companies. if you change your oil as you should, you will be fine with nature's provided.
The only viable argument I have heard is that the synthetic oil may not burn very well in the rotary. I have seen many numerous independent dyno results on synthetics and must say that I support the claims that they add HP. Do not ever trust a company that sells a product as to the viability of its claims, anybody can make their product look good for an infomercial. Always get an independent opinion.
