Howdy!

Hey all, i'm rather new to this forum, but i've been browsing it for awhile now..

I live in British Columbia, Canada and I've been looking for a decent 1st or 2nd gen for a longgg time
Last week I *finally* bought my 1st car, a red '79 Rx-7 S (4-speed) for a great deal (470$ CDN).

Anyways, while driving around a few days ago, the engine started coughing and just sputtered and died, and I wasnt able to start it again..
So my friend and I ended up push starting it, which worked fine...until about 5 minutes later, where it happened again.
After about 3 or 4 push-starts, we finally limped it home, where it's been sitting for the past day or 2..
Now it doesnt even start, no matter how long I try to crank (I havent tried push-starting again though)..
Its definitly not flooded, the carb is absolutely dry, and the fuel gauge reads just under halfway.
Could this be a clogged fuel filter maybe?

Also, I'm planning on trying the ATF treatment soon, but i'm not sure when the previous owner last did an oil change, so i'm going to do one as well..should I change the oil before or after the ATF, or does that matter?

Thanks alot!

Check the fuel filter, and check to see if there is actually fuel in the tank. Your gauge may be stuck. To trouble shoot the pump, use a gas can and put fuel in the tank. Then, disconnect the fuel feed line at the carb, its should be a rubber hose. One hose gives carb fuel, other is return line back to tank. The feed line is LARGER than the return line. Run the hose into the gas can. Turn the key forward to run, but DON'T crank the engine. The electric fuel pump should start filling up the gas can. If that works, you have to measure the output. You should get 1.16 or more US quarts(1.09736 imperial litres) in 1 minute. If you have a pressure gauge that you can hook to the line, the pressure should be between 3.70 and 4.70 psi. Other than that, there may be a line blocked if the tank has rust in it.
