Heh heh....Mine was in need of paint, noisy as all hell from the exhaust being rusted out, there was a clicking/creaking noise from the front right....(idler arm was shot, but secure), so the alianment was off. As far as the motor though, I was still very intreaged and not quite understanding of the rotary, except that it was there! But it was great. Tranny and clutch were smooth, the engine reving was awsome to listen to and look at the 8000 RPM tach. And the speedometer is in kilometers! (interesting, becuase I live in Ohio).

All around, I loved it and have been falling deeper and deeper ever since (I'm sure all of you can understand)

I bought my 7 , after my test drive. A car dealer i emailed called me and said " i've got 2 rx7's, i'll bring
1 of them with me " He drives up with MY rx7 on a trailer,
hands me the keys, and tells me to drive it off. The first thing i did ,,was put 5.00 dollors in the tank. then i tried,
and tried to break it. hit the freeway, every gear was hit hard. it didn't break,,,so,i bought it. For $ 1.200 dollors.
The paint was(is) pretty shot out, and it needed some trim pieces, but it's straight, and there's 187.000 OEM
miles on the clock. For an 1982 12a that does not smoke, and runs very, very well. it huals *** for 100 ***** power car. And i go after FD's supra's, 5.0's, and
most don't want any. they think i've got a secret weapon or something.

I test drove mine and was very satisfied other than than vibrations and loud clunk clunk of the drive shaft. I got it home and removed the shaft to find the rear u joint with 1 bearing completely gone.

$500 buck and it had all kinds of goodies under the hood.

I didn't get to test drive mine, didn't buy it running. I got so lucky with mine, the cat was clogged and that's the only thing that was keeping it from running. My first drive in it was with an open manifold

Mine was sitting under a tarp behind a hay shack down a 4 kilometer long gravel road.... no gas tank, no driver's side window, missing other pieces... so no test drive

Mine was from a dealership (used car trade in). They gave me the keys, and I went to start it up......it wouldn't fire up.......so I was a little disappointed. I figured, as with every car I have had, the gas guage probably didnt work......but, it actually did, and was out of gas. As soon as they put a few gallons in the tank, it fired right up. My first turn, I took fast, and was so used to FWD, that the rear wheels shot out from behind me, and I spun it in the intersection.

It reminded me how much fun lightweight RWD cars were......that I headed back to the dealership and bought it for only $17 more than they owned it for.

HAHAAHAH that sounds hilarious.

My test drive, driving the GSL-SE which my friend owned at the time, and commenting on how my 12a was just as fast as it....

And then spending a year and still ahvent got it to be fast.

But it looks ok i guess...

you know, I don't understand the whole "rice" thing... like, if there was nothing nice looking on any car, there'd be a bunch of primer-grey, completely stock, ugly little cars driving around out there. ioTus' car is NOT rice at all... it's just a nice-looking, almost-stock RX-7 with some very nice accents. Who cares if it's fast? Speed isn't evreything to everyone...

i agree totally.

But to many, many people, rice is "anything apart from stock that doesnt add HP"

that pisses me off so much. That puts directfreak right at the top with me as far as rice-iness. i have one thing to say to those people, when i get my turbo setup in, wanna race????

hehe

that would mean changing the colour of your car, or adding air conditioning, was rice...

Heh, I didn't even test drive mine. The guy was selling it for $300 and I just got my paycheck so I figured the test drive would've just hindered the process towards me owning it. I remember driving to the gas station while taking the side streets (since it wasn't- and STILL isn't- registered). It was great, but it had a little less pep than I imagined. But to compensate the suspension was a lot better than I thought it was. I had driven my friend's 95 240SX quite a bit in the past, and I was surprised to see a car 10+years older than his handling better than his.

The main thing I remember about my test drive was thinking: "Man, this thing is slooooooooooow" I came off a history of American V8s, and hybrid hondas, so the acceleration did not impress.. hehe.. but overall, it was a fun car to drive... still is..

I "test drove" mine ten years before I bought it. I had to think about it a little bit It was owned by my folks and I learned to drive stick in it. When they decided to let it go ten years later I bought it. I was supposed to sell it for them, but ended up buying it from them instead. I do miss the power of the myriad American muscle cars I've owned, but it handles better than any torque laden sled I've owned. I guess I'll just have to fix the power thing...

Imagine your mother in the passenger seat. She's nagging at you to shift at no higher than 4000 RPM... What are you doing in third gear at 40 MPH... WHay are you even going 40 MPH.. This is a 35 MPH street!

Imagine at every stop light her asking you why it's idling at 1200 RPM.

Ugh... I'm sure glad that changed... Everything till the red line is a free for all... In any car I drive.

The speeding thing I'm still working on though. I really gotta quit that.
