Find a new cover? Im sure you can find one for sale cheap. Either here, or on the parts trader. Hell I saw one on ebay a couple of weeks ago. The guy had seperate auctions for all the engine components.

Short answer- you can't weld steel to aluminum and expect it to work properly.

Temp solution if you do not want to fix your front cover- run premix. (two stroke oil in the gas tank) - do a search to find out how much you should put in your gas.

to replace your front cover- lift the engine enough to disconnect the front engine mount. (after pulling off all your pulleys, fan, fan shroud, etc)

Un bolt your front cover,
scrape off gasket,
replace gasket,
replace front cover,
put all your pulleys back on.

It's really not too hard. You can easily get it done on a saturday.

Yeah, thats what they all say untill you run into a problem bolt or part that just won't come off. I changed the timing chain in my 88 Buick LeSabre (I know, a piston engine), and it ended up taking over a week because the Haynes sucks, plus I couldn't get the harmonic balancer off. That was supposed to be a saturday job also.

There is no such thing as a "saturday job" there is only two kinds of jobs in my book...ones that go as planned, and ones that dont. But, if it does go as planned, then you should be able to get it done on a free day...
