How reliable are these things?

Buying a '84 GSL w/ 83k miles (my first RX-7). It's been sitting for about 3 years. What is expected to need/should be done to this car in the near future? All suggestions/recommendations welcome.

ALL fluids will be flushed ASAP.

Obviously rubber products are in question, but what about clutch, motor wear, chassis bushings, etc.? What are the normal "needs replaced/repaired soon" items?

Just want on idea about what I'm getting myself into!

The clutch will need to be replaced. Why did it sit for three years? Was it an "engine problem " You seem to know most of what your getting into, and do keep in mind it's a 17 year old car.

pull the storage bins (behind seats) and look for rust, if the past 3 years haven't been garaged, i would almost bet my right arm there is rust that NEEDS fixing. ALSO, DONT ""flush"" the rad, just empty and refill. ALSO, start puttin some Marvel Mystery Oil in your gas tank (not that much) and some in with your oil.
search MMO treatment for more info on that.

Why wouldn't you want to flush the rad? chances are there a ton of **** built up in there. That clutch is fine, those things will last 150k+ if you know how to drive stick.

It's not a matter of miles. If a clutch sits for a long period of time it becomes brittle. Most people I know that have bought cars that were sitting had to replace the clutch not to long after they got the car on the road.

My own SE that sat for ~1 year, Driving down the road stop for a stop light and can't go into first. Get it home (towed with my truck) pull the trans. and all I see is clutch at the bottom of the bellhousing. I take off the presure plate and 1/4 of the clutch just falls apart. Don't take the chance if you don't have to.
