How rare is Ocean Blue?

Who else here has an Ocean Blue FB? It was an 85 only colour correct? I searched and found ioTus's incredible car, but that's all I could find. Is it that rare of a colour?

If this particular blue is sort of a metallic aquamarine blue, the answer is no. This blue was available at least as far back as 1982.

Is that the same as what they call "Tender Blue"? That is what the previous owner told me was the official color name of my '85 GSLSE

Tender blue is different. As far as I know Ocean Blue was a one year (1985) only colour.

what's the paint code? AFAIK the 85-only blue was Royal Blue Metallic

I just finished looking at this paint code chart, and some of the colors look to be off. For example, a lady friend in Vancouver 15 years ago had an '82 with stock paint (same colour under the hood as exterior, and original). According to the chart, this colour on her car had to have been "stardust," a light metallic blue. But the actual colour was way closer to "marine," a colour that, according to the chart, was only used in 1980.

My first RX7 was an '81 GX (U.S. version = GSL). It was a dark metallic red with a hint of gold in it, and I believe this was called "rennaisance," which was available from '80 to '83. But according to the chart, rennaisance has more of a reddish-pink hue. The colour that most accurately matches what my car was is the one labelled on the chart as "sunrise," which was used from '79 to '85. But I always thought sunrise was the basic non-metallic red. Strange...

Ocean blue is very rare. I have a feeling that there was a mix up at the factory because the color has no blue in it - it's more green than anything else. When I went to paint my car I wanted Ocean Blue. Got the paint code and everything but when I saw the sample it looked more like tender blue so I opted to paint mine Crystal Blue (Miata color).

Here is pic of my car. The royal blue listed on the paint chart looks right on my monitor, but this worries me about getting the right paint.

That color looks very much like the aquamarine shade on my friend's '82 that she had over 15 years ago. Oddly enough, the Toronto Maple Leafs' jersey (no, I'm not a fan) has always been described as "royal blue." But it looks nowhere near the color of your car. It's actually a very dark blue that looks more like an indigo, ie: leans toward a very slight green tinge rather than purplish.

I guess auto manufacturers can choose a color and then call it whatever suits their egos. I'm suprised they haven't come up with a "fire-engine blue."

Take the car, or a small part like the fuel filler door, to the paint shop. They can match the paint.
