How do you guys get the cars for so cheap (less than 1k)? Everywhere I go it seems that 1gs sell for between 1-2k and the nicer ones or the GSL-SEs go for 2-4k. The reason I'm asking is because I wouldn't mind getting another one.... LOL! If only it were 500 dollars And it ran. And there were no problems with it. Haha fat chance eh?

Tell me all your CHEAP buying tactics!

I don't know about the West Coast, but out here on the East Coast I let go of more cheap opportunities then I care to remember. In fact I've gotten rid off good ones for FREE or next to nothing!

My Boy JerryRX7 just picked up a very nice GSL-SE for $700 (that I could of had) and helped a friend of his get two T-II's, one for $300 (w/ R.B. parts on it) and the other for like $700 or so?... neither perfect, but definately worth every penny and more.

I believe these Opportunities are everywhere (East/West) if you develop a "trained eye" for them.

...just got back from Walmart, 1/2 hr. ago, and I bumped into a guy that I knew I'd seen before but couldn't remember where. After he and I and started comparing jobs, hangouts, it finally clicked... we both have Rx's.

His is a 81' fresh Silver paint job with LE wheels. Anyway he now has a van and wants to sell the Rx7. He was asking $700... then went to $600 and before I said see you around, he said "heck I'll take $500".

I gave him a few leads of possible buyers since I already have too many cars (74' RX4, 77' REPU, 78' RHD Rx7, 85' GS+L with all the goodies). But... the more I think about it the more it makes sense to get it. You see if I do, I can the de-commision my 85' and repaint it, add fender flares, detail the engine bay, complete my interior make over and of course... TurboCharge it!!!

Nah... I'll never hear the end of it from wifey "when are you going to get these other cars on the road?"

Bay area cars tend to be a little higher because they're generally in fair condition. Last year I picked up a pristine 85GSL with 49k (actual!) miles for 1700. It's a sweetheart. This year I got an 83GS for FREE from a fellow in Fremont (he's in this club). And after undenting, bondoing, and shooting with 12 rattle cans of Rustoleum Apple Red, it's starting to look good. Needs to be rubbed out. Needs to pass smog, too. Needed the old seats to be thrown in dumpster, which I did, and replaced with $50 red beauties from junkyard.

Keep your eyes open.

If you're interested, I've got a good deal on the red83 that needs smog adjustment. Done a lot of work to make it nice already. Give me a PM.

Mine was free... I make a total investment of $9.00 in gas to get her running. She's got 23k on the clock too

Guy wanted it off his property, so I was more than glad...

got my first one - a '83 GSL for $1400 (too much!), running and in alright shape. i drove the **** out of it for 3 years and ended up selling it for $300.

just recently bought a '84 GSL-SE for $800. it ran when i test drove it but i've since flooded it and it's being a stubborn little bitch to get started.

I got my seven for my 16th birthday, I can't wait to get it out on the road legally, I've just driven it out in the country while my parents are out. Its got 129,000 km's on it, it had no seats and it wasn't firing. It turns out the guy knew squat about cars, and he put the plugs on wrong and couldn't figure it out. So i put some new ngk cables on it and she ran. I found some practially brand new leather seats from an 82 at pick your part, and I just finished the exhaust work, One thing that I can't find is tire studs for my car. It has cheviot 15 inch rims wrapped in pacemark rubbers. i'm missing a bolt on each of my rear wheels so i can't really drive here hard right now. o-yeah, its an 1981 mazda rx-7, 4 wheel disc brakes and limited slip differential, wide body kit, and the thing goes like a mother f*ker.

$1700 for mine with an apex seal gone off the front rotor, clutch issues, and a dead battery.

Damn I'm a sucka...
She was worth it for the condition of her body and the mods though.

Sounds like a lot of you got ripped off!!

My '85 GS was $200. Looks like crap but it going to be a track car

My '85 GLS was $400. It was to be a parts car for the track car but looks too good and runs too well.

I bought both in an unrunning state. First one needed new gaskets in the carb. Second one needed the filter in the gas tank cleaned.

I keep an eye on the local trader paper and see them (1st gens) for $150 to $1500. Not sure who is trying to get $1500. Must be someone on crack. The ones here being sold are almost always stock. I could see $1500 if it's been ported, suspension, etc.

$800 for my 85 GSL with 65K on the clock. It had been sitting for about a year. Needed carb rebuilt, nmew calipers, brakes and tires. Interior looks like the day it rolled off the assembly line.
