20 years old, don't sweat it. it happens to everyone (in most cases) you question yourself, the direction your life is going, and maybe even your value system.. You maybe starting to get the BIG picture, or what i call a (global consense) and feel somehow you want to make a difference or feel where your at is not enough. Presure from the homefront ( parent(s) ) or girl related
From what i understand you've been locked-in on one thing. ' your car ' if this is right DF has given you some sound advice and just stop and back away. you've run out of stuff to do to your car. your opening your eyes and seeing that it could never end, (pouring money into ) and it's still the same car.. save some money and let the car make noise for awhile. do you have other interests ?? Your young and may not have been turned-on to other things. are you the type of person that when you get into something nothing else matters ? a tunnel vision of sort ? lets see........if there is anything you've always wanted to try but were held back by yourself and used the car as an excuse for a fear of the unknown. in other words ' control ' you control every bit ,
every aspect of the car, but now your wanting to venture out. do so... be open to things that before you would never even consider, and have more fun in your life. were only here for a little while and it's a really big world with lots of hidden treasures to discover for those who are willing to look. so ******* what !!! if your car is slow, know this....you tried !! right. don't stop believing in your self.. you've been sick, ill. you've been addicted to buying, and working on just one thing and one thing only thats why you feel no satisfaction per money pumped into, only one thing. you would not feel that if you have other interests to buy.. (example) when manntis said he was going to do a carbon hood the first thing i thought of was," i wonder how hard it would be "
i've never done anything in composites (fibre glass, carbon fibre, kevlar ) so i set out to try the medium. i had an idea of the basics, did some research, and a couple of screw ups, more research and now i've learned, by doing.. i can make lots of things out of composites with good results... my advice would be to not learn every lesson by failing. nothing is perfect ! even God. a perfect thing cannot create in-perfection. a perfect thing creates only perfection. chin-up your young...keep the faith.

i posted this same instance before. maybe about 6 months ago. rx7carl helped me through my endeavor a good bit. this forum will definitely make a 1st gen rx7 owner remember what it's truly about. I LOVE IT! i was just feeling like i was wasting my time and money. then i just realized... i did it for the love of just DOING it. not to have the ultimate drag car or anything. now my turbo setup is done and when i go to drive the car finally.... if it's slow i'll be a little down about it, but that just means i get to work on it more and problem solve. i've been mad at this thing so much, but when I fix it, i alone, feel better than ever! you'll get it going buddy, hit me up aim sometime!

hey, Iotus, lemme know what you are running in the 1/4. I just weighed my car today coming home from a girl's place, and I'm sitting at 2550lbs with me and a half tank of gas. This friday I'm going to goto Race City, the local drag strip here in calgary and take a few runs. I'm sure your car is quicker than mine, and I still think mine is quick. Quick, not fast. Don't sell it. I almost sold mine, but thats not gonna happen now that I have CHEAP insurance $201 Cdn, Full coverage, 3 months $733cdn for a full year, but I park it in winter.

Iotus man, I sent you a pm outta the blue complimenting you on your car. Now that I've read most of your posts in this thread, about how you did all the work yourself, about how you didn't know thing one about cars when you started; it's pretty much locked me into finding a blue FB and getting my hands dirty.

Your car is the one that made up my mind when deciding between FC and FB.

Keep that car till your old and gray, cheers ^_^

Don't sell your car! I admit, the thought has crossed my own mind as well, but everytime I drive her, I get a great big grin on my face that I simply can't put a dollar value on.

Find a daily driver (mine is a Yota truck with 30mpg) and wait till you can finish the Rex. You will not recoup your expenses, and you'll be selling something you love! So DON'T DO IT!

ok im just putting in my 1.5 cents.im having/had this problem with my first car, which is a 64 buick special, it got to the point that would drive it because it didin;t run long enough to get me a mile, then i got my 7. now that i have my 7 i want a project truck, but i cant until somthing happens to my buick. to me no one could pay me enough to buy that car, because i love that car. and now i dont want to sell it because i love but dont want to keep it because i want to move on. i guess what i this boils down to is how much do you care about your car. i dont know after writing this it kinda sounds like a pointless rant but i hope you get what i am trying to say.

About 6 years ago, my 7 stopped running. Each day that passed, I missed the hell out of driving it. I had no time to fix it, but really didn't want to sell it. I let the registration lapse, dropped the insurance and in my carport she sat.

I got probably 10 offers to buy her in her non-running condition while she sat. I considered each and every one and came back to the obvious - she was the first car that I had bought, I loved her and couldn't stand the thought of seeing someone else drive her.

It took a lot longer than I wanted, but I finally got her back on the road. I've given her love and care and have killed 3 engines since. I know I'm never going to sell her ever, and am very happy that I didn't sell her when things were tight or I didn't have the time.

Geoff, you have a damn fine 7. She's clean, gorgeous and you've put lots of blood, sweat and tears into her. Don't give that up. Put her away for a while if you need to - be it for weeks, months or even years - but do NOT sell her.

You'd regret it. Trust me

The car is monetarily worth whatever the market will bear. That is a one-of-a-kind car; likewise, so would be the buyer. An analogy is the value of "art". That car is a work of art!

Like so many folks have mentioned, try another obsession for awhile. ...Like on-line gaming! (Just kidding; although, that does work as an obsession trade-off!)

Remember, your RX will always be there for you, like an old familiar friend.

When I was 24 or so I bought my first rx-7. It was an 81 GS beater. I spent several years replacing worn interior parts, finding nice rims, putting a SP 13B in it, tuning it and driving it. I loved that car. It was more of an expression of who I was than anything else. My wife and I came to the point where we wanted to buy a house. I sold that car for way less than what I put into it to help with a downpayment. The extra cash helped, but we could've saved for another 3 months or so to make up that difference.

In hindsight- It was a dumb mistake. I enjoyed driving that car. I enjoyed working on that car. I always wished I had it back.

This is what led me to buy another 1st gen. I'm a little older (and like to think a little wiser) so I found a relatively unmolested GSL and bought it. I don't plan on $10,000 worth of mod's, but I will damn sure enjoy driving it.

Whatever you do- make sure you won't regret it. It took me 10 years to replace mine...

Thanks again guys :-)

I have decided that i'm only going to spend enough to get the car finished (a couple hundred more), and then i'm not going to buy anything else on it.

The fast-cars stage in my life is over, as far as being "into the scene". I'm gonna enjoy driving what i have, and move on to bigger and better things in my life.

I'm moving into my own place w/ a bud at the end of the month. I'm going to start working on my indavidual art portfolio (i'm a fine arts major, and computer graphicist) School will be starting up in 2 months. I'm ready for the next part of my life :-)

Well, I tell ya, my car is owning me so bad right now. Its been 10 months since I got it, and I've driven it a total or 2 weeks over the course of about 3 months. I first drove it back in may for a week, then something stoped me, then I fixed that and drove it for another half week about a month later, then another problem. I then waited another 2 weeks and drove it for highschool prom. I drove it for 2 days, then MORE PROBLEMS. I think you can see my frustration.

your starting to get the big picture, cool. it's not about your car, it's about you . welcome to a whole new world of stress, that being :: roommates, rent, gas & light bills, home cooking,ETC. just wait til your first night in your pad, talk about satisfaction !! some advice : both tenants sign the lease agreement, bills come in both names. the key is to be organized, keep count, keep written records of monies loaned, spent, and lost. Stay grounded and you'll do fine. Really !.

It doesn't take much to get to a point where you've spent more on these cars then you will ever get back. I passed that point long ago. But we don't buy them to make money on them. Maybe 10 years from now they will reach the collectability of cars like the 240Z. Until then, just enjoy it for what it is, not what you wish it was.

It's been 10 years since this thread's been started and they're still not as collectible as a Z.

Simple: different generations. A 240z is as old as a R-100 as well as a RX-2-3-4.
