i found a non running 12A shortblock. he said the engine didnt want to start, he got it too once, but then it wouldnt, so he took it apart at some point, looked into how much it was going to be to rebuild and decided he didnt care anymore and just put a V8 in is FB. lol.

Main thing to look for would be the condition of the housings. If they're good, I'd pay $400-500 on the chance that it can be rebuilt cheaply. If they're not, $200 tops. I'm a cheap guy though, I don't want to keep tons of parts around anymore and am trying to liquidate so keep that in mind.

Since the front eccentric bolt is out, this means at the very least you would need take the front cover off to ensure everything is correct. At this point, you might as well disassemble the entire engine. Because of this, I would try and convince the seller you would not buy it unless the engine was taken apart to inspect. You could even offer to help. No inspection - no purchase.

ok, what should i be looking for in the inspection, i know chrome flaking and chatter marks are one. whats a relatively easy way to tell how much of the chrome has been worn off? or is that not that big of a deal?

This is for a 1979 but the concept is the same for any 12A. http://www.foxed.ca/rx7manual/manual...ria%201979.pdf
