How to make your window regulators last longer

As you may know, the window regulator mechanisms on 1st gens. are prone to wearing out pretty quickly. This is largely due to the fact that the shaft is not bushed at it's outboard end, but is merely a pin sticking through a punched hole which becomes oblong in time, allowing the gear to cant with respect to the rack. This not only wears the teeth on the rack unevenly, but also causes binding, and slipping.
Here's what you do:
Remove the window crank handle and turn it 180 degrees and reinstall it.
Pretty simple, huh?
Do this every six months or so, and your window regulator will last longer.

Next time I take a regulator out, instead of putting in the $150 replacement I'm going to bush the critical points. There's got to be someway to convert those dudes to sintered bronze oilite bushings.

Greasing all the moving points does wonders. It also helps if you don't force your windows up or down i.e. don't put a side load on the handle - you just want to rotate it.
