how loud will it be w/ header and presilencer?

i ordered a header and presilencer for my 85 rs from racing beat (back order), and im wondering how loud it will be. I had previously orderd a straight pipe to replace my cats and that was way too loud, i had to take it off. anyway rb told me this would not be as loud, is this true? I did not by the powerpulse muffler, but i might. my muffler isnt stock, but its not the best aftermarket application either. please post your experiences-thanks

I think the header adds a lot of noise. I ran the RB header/presilencer with a stock muffler for a month. It was so loud I had the neighbors constantly threatening to call the cops on me, and I had to turn my car off when I got near cops on the highway. This muffler was very quiet with the stock manifold, so I think it was in good shape.

Then I got the Powerpulse muffler, and now my exhaust volume is totally acceptable. It sounds AMAZING, and doesn't attract too much of the wrong kind of attention.

My car is way too loud, I should've held onto that powerpulse instead of selling it to my neighbor!

My exhaust with the stock muffler was VERY loud though, I mean I have a really loud stereo and I couldn't even hear it over the exhaust! It could be my muffler was in fact on the way out.

No one in my neighbor hood complains about noise even the few times I ran it with open headers! But normally I ran a header to a cheapo glass pak and then a stock replacement muffler that is somewhat hollowed out from the years.

The reason no one complains it that one of our neighbors has a jet engine powered dragster of somekind, and you can hear that thing for miles when they are running it, So I figure if they can get away with it, I have no problem, unless I'm rev'n it constantly with open headers...

I have the RB header and presilencer with the Monza/Pacesetter muffler. Yes, I know everybody says the Monza muffler is a piece of junk.
Anyway, my car is acceptably loud. It is not quiet by any means, but I have had no problems with the police or neighbors. If I don't rev it too high it just sounds like a deep bass. No worse than a truck. If I open it up, it gets pretty loud though.
just my opinion,
hanman

I would have to say by this statement that the RB header Presilencer combined with the stock muffler is going to be too loud.

I have the cat replacement pipe on my other wise stock 80 and do not think it too loud. I do not like the tone of the sound but do not mind its volume.

Funnny, I liked the sound when this setup was on my 83, but that was before I got the RB street port system with a Borla. I dislike the sound now having heard the RB setup.

I would saw spring for the RB muffler. Good sound and not loud.

You NEED to use the whole RB setup (w/presilencer and muffler) to make it quiet. If you skip out on any of the parts, it will be MUCH louder.

Yeah on my 85 with homemade cat replacement pipe and stock the rest of the way back, it wasnt really that loud.

On my 80 with RB headers and a RB PS, it was FREAKING loud. But I liked it

I have the RB headere, presilencer, and Prima Flow Muffler from RB and is not loud at all, it does have a nice melo sound but nothing that will attract the police nor disturb the neighbors....

RB header, Random Tech Cat, custom pre-silencer,RB muffleron an '85 GSL-SE. a lot quieter than the stock exhaust with holes all over the place gave it a nice mellow sound.

from the looks of it, it depends on the type of muffler you get as to how mellow or crazy it will sound.

and the award for stating the obvious goes to.....me

Not really though... it all works together. A PrimaFlow muffler with no presilencer and headers will still be freakin loud!
