how long can you run on one rotor for?

i would say i have put about 80 to 100 miles on my car running on 1 rotor so far, and i was just wondering how long do you think it can run for like that. it was the worst week ever last week, my 7 blew a motor, and so did my 91 buick, so i am left with no cars, but this one still kinda works, so i have to use it. i did a compression test on it today, and the rear rotor was at 30 psi, and the front was at 115. so i was just wondering how many miles people think i can get on one rotor before i need to buy a new car, cuz i dont have any money right now. and is there anyone out there with a cheap 12a they are willing to sell to me, i dont need the tranny or anything, just the motor.

thanks.

Mine just pulled this ****, I was like **** so I check compression with the trusty rotary engine compression tester borrowed from the dealer (i know em pretty good) and humm its got like 121, 116,118 in the front, 115, 118, 117 in the back, well it aint the motor.

I screw around with it for like 3 hours, so in desperation I put new plugs in it, the ****** fired right up, so Im now a firm beleiver in new plugs. These were only 600 miles old, but they went to the drag strip like twice, and had a few smoking cobra's, z-28's etc on them

hmm.. does it have compression on all three sides? if so, try some ATF... you never know.

had this problem with my old 12A in my 85, it had like 60-80 in the front, and near perfect in the rear... It ran fine, idled a little funky, but otherwise it ran. Lasted me about 20,000 miles. but this all depends on if the seal is cracked, how thin it is etc. When it breaks you'll know it, it wont drive over 30-40 mph with it to the floor... I wouldnt plan any long trips

that happened to me 2 months ago to me, it would start up suprisingly well, but it was really slow, i drove on one rotor for about 1 1/2 months, horriable fuel milage, and constant backfires but it got me around :-)

my baby would never leave me strandid

Somebody told me you can use a conventional compression tester with the Shraeder check valve removed. Haven't tried it yet.

You cant measure the compression with a conventional tester but you can check if you have lost cpmpression

The only thing to do is hook it up. The tester should jump to the same spot more than three times in a row.

Do this on both rotors. If you have good compression the tester should give the same reading 3 times. If a seal is blown you may have one strong reading and two bad ones. This means you've got a blown seal.

What would the compression be if you blew a seal? 30 sounds high for a "blown motor". Maybe leave MMO in their overnight?

Sounds bad, I hated doing it but I drove on both a blown 12a,and 13b... For multiple months without any trouble, if you can stand the slowness, and constant shaking....

How much HP does one rotor make on a 12a? like 55? Is that enough to move the car up to speed?

Much less. You got to think about that in a perfect world the power would be just half, but in reality you have one rotor doing all the work plus throwing the ten pound weight (being the dead rotor).

That pretty much makes your power zilch. 0-60 in.... well you'll be lucky if you can get to 60!

I've always wondered what kind of power a single rotor motor could produce. Say if you turbocharged it. How's that for a lightweight engine. The torque in stock form would suck..but once that boost hits....

Hey, don't drive around like that. It IS dangerous. Believe me I did for a short while; after my front rotor let go in my first engine.

It's almost impossible to merge onto a divided hiway, its a pain in the *** to park, and if the blown rotor causes the engine to lock up (which I think it could) you might find yourself in a spot of trouble.

actually atkins rotary makes a single rotor motor. I think the power was from somewhere from 80-100 HP. Thats alot for one rotor. Allmost as good as our 12a's! I just wonder how in the hell it stays in balance.

120 is what a new rebuilt motor will give u
and i think when u start hitting 80's its time for a rebuild.. and a port

You can test compression with a normal compression tester. You have to remove the oneway valve.Get somebody to crank the engine, and then note the readings. You will have to pay proper attention while doing this.

well....im gonna be driving it like it is. i dont care if it does lock up on me some day, i have friends and a cell phone, and thats what they are for. but i can hit about 80 max. thats on a good flat road, but it probably takes me about 30 seconds to get to 60, but it gets there. i dont have to really merge anywhere either, i dont live in to populated of an area, so i can stay on the back roads and be fine, so i guess now the question is how many miles is it gonna get? i put about 40 on today already, i will probably put another 20 or so on tonight, but who knows, hopfully she will hold out, cuz my uncle said he might sell me his 325i bmw. once i get that then i can put the rex away and start saving.
