How to lighten sunroof

Hey does anybody know how I can make the sunroof lighter. This is on a 1980 racecar. Trying to lose as much weight off this baby as possible and I was wondering if there was a way to lighten it. Let me know. Thanks

You could just weld in a skin where the sunroof is and remove the added structure. You will probably only save a few lbs.

The lightest possible solution is to rivet some .032 aluminum on to cover up the hole, I have seen cars done that way and it works fine. The only problem I have seen with the aluminum panel is when you are racing with ChumpCar and they stick the magnetic pit stop timer on the aluminum.

On my car, I cut all the reinforcing structure away until it is just the outer skin, I set that in a bed of expanding foam, put a few countersunk screws to make sure it wouldn't come out and filled the gap around the panel with some bondo. It is not perfect but it looks OK from a distance and it worked pretty well.

Even lighter still, you could just remove it.
