i've been into RX-7s since '79 and would love to adopt anyone who would take me to meets, races, etc..... as long as I don't have to pay for food, boyfriends or college. (btw. I'll have a drink or two, but will treat you well)

My dad does not really like rx7s well not the motor and the back window. But I got it because it was only 200. So when we got to weld it all put like fill in the rust holes. me and my dad never been closer. Because I never get to see him. so when me and my dad have been working on it he is starting like them more. Ok so I get to see my dad for only 2 hours befor school. He works from 2pm to 11pm so I never get to see him. But only on the week ends and summer. So this is what you can do try to get your dad to give you a hand with the car ask him stuff like how do I fix this or can you help me? I would try that.

well yellow79, when I talked to your dad at the car show at lime rock last may, he seemed decently excited about seeing my car. I think he said how much he loved driving (but so does everyone) and things along those lines. Seeing a fairly rare, nicely restored car on the road will get him going a lot more than a rusted pos in a yard. I know my father hates clutter around the garage and shed (2 1/2 sets of unused wheels and TONS of other spare/ used parts), so maybe try to make your 7 not part of the problem. The only reason my dad isn't too fond of my car is because of how I took over his workshop with all the projects I'm working on. Take him to more meets with nice first gens, and get yours on the road!

on that note, if you need any parts to get yours running, let me know because I have some stuff I need to get rid of.

pce, and good luck!

Yellow '79,

I don't want to go all "Dr. Phil" on you with advice, but start small. Ask him to please give you a hand doing something on the car that you can both accomplish in an hour or less (when he's not busy). When you're done, smile, shake his hand (or give him a hug) and say "thanks!" and tell him how much you really enjoy working together.

Dad's can't read minds and sometimes think you don't really want to hang around with "the old man" so he may just be giving you your "space".

A week later or so, if all goes well, ask him to please help you a little more with something else on the car. He'll get the hint and probably be more eager to spend that "quality time" with you. You don't have to go "somewhere else", like a "meet" to do that. Maybe it's the trip he doesn't like?

Or maybe see what HIS interests are and see if you can share something HE likes to do first.

Don't give up, because it's worth the effort, and I admire you for trying!

For what it's worth,

DD
