How to get my car started

I'm doing an engine swap soon anyways, but I really want to see if the 12a thats in my 85gsl right now even works. Here's the symptoms...

Battery is fully charged and I know the starter is good because I had took the time to have it checked. But when I turn the key the motor turns but doesn't want to start. It will turn for hours on end if I felt like it and sometimes it feels like its just on the edge of starting, but even though I spend all the time playing with the clutch, pumping the gas a lil, I'm not sure what to do anymore. I havent tried changing out any of the ignition parts or oil yet, do you think it would make a difference or should I just give up since I'm dumping out the motor anyways?
I've gotten it to start every now and then like maybe 3 times in the month I've had it, but I'm getting tired of messing with a motor that wont be there long anyways.

I have tried pouring gas into the carb and it didn't make much of a difference. I haven't messed with any of the fuel plumbing though, thanks I'll do that tomorrow and get back to ya.

1st i would pull the plugs and make sure you are getting spark to all of them. if your not check the coils. if you are then check the fuel system. if your not getting enuf fuel then chek the fuel filter and the lines and stuff. if you are getting fuel and too much of it check your float settings if it is carburated. my floats were too high and it just poured gas in.

Can you tell if your fuel pump is running? If so give your fuel bowls a little tap tap tappy to see if your floats are stuck.
