On the freeway, I usually go around 80 ish.

I have already gotten 1 ticket this year and also one tint ticket for when I was actually doing 65 in a 65. BTW, that was TOTAL BULLSHIT.

Nobody here better come to Virginia... 20 over or 80MPH, whichever is less is reckless. 90 is grounds for a pair of nice bracelets and a chauffer for a short ride.

I think roads designed after the autobond of Germany were made that way for a reason(hitler did something right actually in WWII developing a fast transist system). The interstate system is designed for speeds well in excess of what the posted limits are(not everywhere though obviously). Cars and people are not as good at being trained for those speeds, and reaction times on those circumstances. We all have a thrill from going fast, so as long as nothing goes wrong, its fun. Ofcourse cars/people/debree/wildlife are factors that are weighed in when deciding the speed limits. I think were those varibles are low, speed can be increased with relative safety.
Keep in mind if the cars were made like race cars, most people would survive a serious crash, but the restraint system and roll bars would not be agreeable with most average people.

Don't make me go there! I’m about to go to court because some idiot decided that I was speeding and that gave him the justification to cut me off and almost cause a wreck and I asked him why he did that if he was such an angel and you know what he told me…guess…
‘I’m more mature than you buddy, I know when not to do something’….I said, sure yeah, I’m not the one flying around people and causing wrecks…thank god I’m a defensive driver like all of the RACERS in my family have taught me.
It is no different on a race track, people still make mistakes at high speed, the only difference is that it’s sanctioned event and EMTS are standing by.
Guess what, it's the city vs him, I didn't do anything wrong.

While I am in a preacher mood, lets not knock the police they do a difficult job on low pay, they have to do one job I would hate- going to a house and telling the wife their husband has been killed in a car crash.
I note the voting poll mostly gives high speeds while the posts mainly say they keep to the speed limit, perhaps those who frequently break the limit have writing difficulties.

Some people will argue driving at 100 mph is not safe. Ok. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. One time I was put to the test when my front right wheel came off at a 100 mph. I kept control of the car and manuevered to the breakdown lane safely to a stop, and this was at 5:30 pm in a highway with average volume of vehicles.
So that's how I drive. Oh, and no accidents in over 20 years. But I have certainly avoided a lot of them, especially retarded idiots that won't use a turn signal or come out of parking lots blindly into the streets like they own it.

I'm sorry but if you own a sports car, learn to drive it and be a little daring otherwise drive a toyota corolla! I'm against street racing but for doing whatever you are COMPLETELY comfortalbe with in areas you are fimiliar with. If you're doing 10 over and below, cops should definitely leave ya alone unless in residential, school, construction sites normal speed limit is needed. Speeding depends on conditions Snow- have fun if you're the ONLY one on the road and be prepared to get pulled out of a ditch, rain-no speeding, dry, hot pavement-have fun!

I don't speed. I have a clean record and low insurance. Besides that's what the cruise control is there for right? to keep us out of trouble...If I want to speed that's what track days are for. Although I do sometimes get the overwhelming urge to just plant my foot and see how fast I can bury the speedo, regrettably my sense of self preservation and fear of incarceration and a new "boyfriend" prevent it. LOL

Yes just because your driving fast doesn't have to mean your driving reckless. The Autobans are actually MORE safe to drive on than our american roads. People are actually paying attention to what they are doing. Their cars are designed to go fast with no distracting amenities like radios cupholders or cell phone holders. They are there to drive and are in the zone. We fat american are so non-shalant about what we are doing when we drive it's pathetic.

Getting a license is more expensive and tougher in Germany than getting a license in the US. Thats why they have better drivers for the most part.
Anyways, I play it safe in the city. Too many SUV's can't see my small FB sometimes and besides, its crowded where I live. On the highways, everyone usually does 10 over. On late nights on the highway with hardly anyone around, I'm usually going ~80-85mph.

Ergh, someone mentioned my pet peeve: People who don't use their god damned blinkers!
They are the real menaces on the road, not people that go a little faster. In my town, I think I'm the only person that ever uses blinkers. It's rediculous (SP?)!
It's the little things like that, you know?
Sorry, just had to rant

Best post of this thread.
PS: If I am speeding, it's usually within 5MPH in the city. I find that I hit less lights when I keep it around the limit, making the trip faster in the end.
Highways here in Saskatchewan are 110 kph, and I'm usually below 120 there as well.

In the city, I'm the guy that everyone passes because I'm doing 27 mph......... interstate, 7 mph over the posted limit or what the flow of traffic.......on a twisty vacant country highway i go just as fast as those sharp corners allow.

in ANY car I go at least 20 over typically. But I've found after a few beers I go the speed limit and stop swerving. I've had no speeding tickets either. Now any other kind of ticket yes I've had those.
