CA How do you get the strut out on a SE front

Hi Guys,

I have my struts out and the spring off but cant get the cap off to pull out the shock from the tube. Is there any tricks to get the cap to budge? Im assuming it needs to be turned counter clockwise right? I have tried a few different things and cant get it to budge. Thanks

Racing Beat sells a special wrench for it for not much money. $10 or so I think.

Have you seen any posts on what it looks like. I wonder if I could make it, instead of ordering and waniting several days for it to come in. Thanks

If you look at the top nut on the strut carrier, you can kind of visualise how it would need to work.

Go to google images and search on "shock spanner wrench;" you can see a couple approaches that would work.

As twinkletoes said, you can go the pipe wrench route, too, if you don't mind marring the nut up some.

Didn't realize RB made a tool for that, I should pick one up.... I usually use the pipe wrench method which works fine, but it does chew it up a bit...

The impact works for the nylock nut on top the strut rod, which holds the strut rod to the bearing plate.

I think the OP's talking about the large cylindrical cap which holds the cartridge inside the strut carrier.
