How do YOU do doughnuts?
I know that rx-7's are not known for their insane standing burnout ability, but ARE known for doing doughnuts.
So,
I want to know how YOU guys do doughnuts; seeing as you all have far more experience with 7's than I.
Also,
Any vids would be realy nice
Thanks
Gaz

I love doughnuts, i do them almost every time i drive my car
It all depends on the situation. You can just be moving slowly, accelerate while cutting the wheel, turn and kick the clutch and you will end up snaping around etc. Just go nuts on a parking lot some night, and be prepared to replace your tires

Burning Oil-Grinding 3rd
I like to catch a wide spot with a little sand or gravel. helps to get it moving. The best is that dark asfault parking lots with a little water on them.

You can acheive good donuts by reving the engine dumping the clutch and jumping to the brake while holding the gas 'AKA' powerbraking it and turning the steering wheel in the process and maybe just easing up on the brakes ever so slightly I can do perfect donuts like that and I did so in a t intersection with three big ditches on on the sides. I am trying to get a video of some of my longer burnouts and donuts wish me luck as we never seem to have the camra with us when I do them but I have got pics of the aftermath which was cool. Hope this helps and happy donuting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

As for doughnuts, IMO they kinda suck. Then do a 180 fairly well and barely make it back around, but they wont keep going after one 360 generally in my experiance. If they do, its usually pretty slow unless you have some hardcore engine in there. Im not a fan of doing doughnuts anyway, I find drifting to me much more fun. I used to find parking lots and practice drifting from one row to the next. I would get speed up going down one row of parking spaces and at the end when you turn out so you could go down the next row, I would kinda drift around that corner (so I was now going down the next row), and repeat. Either that or try and slalom around through the islands or lamp posts, although dont try this unless youre fairly good at controlling the car, it can cause some serious damage if you mess up, lol.
Mostly though, I just ran the backroads by my house that I know well and practiced "real world" drifting type stuff around long bends in the road, around corners, etc. Good times

EDIT: Someone above posted the "trick" to the burnouts, and I dunno why, but it never occured to me to try and do doughnuts like that, sonofabitch! Too bad I dont have an RX-7 to try it in now...

When I powerbraked in my old 93 5.0, I did it more like an auto....foot on brake and clutch, bring up rpms, let out clutch(dont drop it, but do ride it too long) and then lots of tire smoke!

Sounds like you need three feet for that
In the 7, just hold the clutch with one foot, bring revs up with the other (higher is better so you have "transition time" and dont bog the engine), then step off the clutch and quickly move from the clutch to the brake and lightly step on it. Practice it a few times to get it, but once you do, it will make for some fun. I used to do it with my 83 GSL next to Honduhs and stuff that pulled up revving their engines wanting to race at stop lights. They usually looked over and watched like "WTF did I get myself in to?" then when the light turned green they would slowly pull away not trying anything, lol. Then, if they did try something as they pulled away, I swear it launched better with warm tires, and I usually spanked em after that, lol.

I've seen more good donuts in RX-7's than any other car. Hell, there was even one on American Choppers. They just cut to a 1G in the parking lot doing a fast donut around and around with only about 5-10 feet of space on each side. That made my day.

man, that episode of american hot rod was the best!!! I mean, it was so random. Everyone just emptys out of the shop and watchs this first gen do doughnuts in the parking lot. Thats one time when TIVO really comes in handy!!

yea wasn't that car brown? i don't even have cable but what a coincidence i was at my friend's house when i saw the end of those donuts. the tires on my t2 are too nice to roast but with the old tires i did a little bit and the limited slip diff makes for some nice donuts. on my old 85 gs before I got new tires on it I went and tore the crap out of the old ones in this parking lot, i did standing brake burnouts and donuts in 4th freakin gear with like a 20 foot diameter circle of spin, it would just keeping going around and around and around. and do burnouts forever. but why the hell did this thread starter say rx7's don't do well at standing burnouts? thats bullshit, i thought they were known for that, atleast they should be, my friend had a video of this guy with a blue fb doing burnouts on a drag racing track and it lasted for like i think atleast 3 1/2 minutes before his clutch blew apart (or the engine blew).

Righto
1) Clutch In
2) Rev to 3-4K
3)Clutch out resonably paced (not dumped)
4) Quick switch foot to brake
5) Turn the wheel
6) Squeal the tires like a raped ape
