they're held on by posts going through the body work. If you take 'em off you leave holes of exposed metal that rust can get into (the paint rarely extends into the holes)

The GSL-SE emblem is only held on with tape. I know because my GSL-SE emblem never got added back on after my paintjob. I replaced all the other emblems with new from Mazdatrix/VB, however, since as stated above, you'll have the post holes that will stand out like bullet holes around your otherwise beautiful car.

The emblems can be removed (those with posts) by getting behind the post and pushing out with a bladed screwdriver or other hard metal object.

For those that don't want to come loose, being very careful, you can get a screwdriver under the edge and pry slowly and carefully to remove without damaging the car. Best of luck,

I use a gasket scraper or putty knife type blade to remove emblems. Just be carefull and dont rush it.

This may be a little late, but maybe help for others. A 16" length of fishing line, one end attached to a piece of plywood measuring approx. 2"x 6"x 3/4"with a screw, the other end attached to an identical piece of wood in the same fashion. Use this in a sawing motion much like you would when cutting the throat of the person you wish to exact revenge on. WHOOPS! Too much information. Just kidding, the first part works...the second part?
