How do I get the sunroof clamp off without breaking it?

You know, this thing:

I can't get it apart. The plastic's pretty brittle, so I'm trying to be careful with it, and I'm completely stumped. Anyone taken one off before?

I'll walk you threw removing it.... i hope this is what your looking for

Step One remove the glass/metal roof by pressing the red buttons in and uncliping the red safety clip {@ at the end of the sun roof most rear ward out side the car with the glass as high as possible }.

Step two remove the 4 screws holding the top half and lower half of the assembly.

Three unwined assembly by turning down ward.

ill see if I can get some photos for you if you need them, hope this helps.

I am thinking it unscrews from the top.....had mine out last month and can go look for sure in the morning if nobody answers ya....i dont remember it being to hard to get aloose on mine. Seems like there are 4 screws holding the turn handle plate to the car (looks like u have them out) but I am thinking there are 4 more on the very top of the housing (just under sunroof) that may have to come out and then it screws down????.

Yes, I've got the 4 screws out of the roof. I've tried to keep unwinding the assembly, but it won't budge past a certain point. I'll have to give it another shot.

i thought there was a ring around the top with 4 screws? so you remove the 4 screws from the sunroof clampy bit and then 4 more for the retainer and it just falls out?

You might have to do it this way take the 8 screws out from up top and take the inner pieces apart from up top there's a box and large big plastic screw that screws to a inner plastic screw an i think there's a small metal Philips head screw in there that's a retainer for the plastic screws then it should drop ... i think.... ill get photos on Saturday if you don't get it apart then.

Ok, went and pulled mine out of the car to remind me how to do it....first pull the 4 screws off the top metal plate and remove the plate. Screw the sunroof **** to the down position. Then take the 4 screws off the "tower" base. These are just above the roof. The plastic piece that the 4 screws go thru that you just took out is a "sleeve" that will slide off. Its been on there for over 25 years, so it might be tight....might take some rocking and tugging to get it to move, although i didnt have any trouble with mine the first time that i remember. Including a picture of the "tower" and "**** base" so you can visualise them apart. Hope this helps.....

There's 8 screws. If you find the tower part isn't working properly you can replace it or just find another winder.
