How come civics are lighter than FB's?

All the car guys aruond here that i know (that actually are into performance) claim their civics weigh in at 1700 pounds, full interior....

I didnt believe them at first, until every single one i talked to said the same thing.

Now whats up with that??? i could have sworn that the FB's were nice because they dont weigh much. Now what is up with that!? Civics, weighing nearly a thousand pounds less than an rx7? (and before you start flaming me that rx7's dont weigh that much, i know how much they weigh. So instead of talking about this, talk about the thread that i brought up please)

Could someone please clear this up in my mind, are civics really that much lighter? If so, why are they still slow as hell?

Horsepower to weight ratio. It may be a lighter car, but its a weaker engine.

The RX-7 is light, but its not the lightest car ever made. The size and design of the car compliments the rotary engine very well though.

1700lbs isn't even street legal, that's B.S.

I believe the elise was illegal here because it weighed 1800lbs or something... or maybe that's what they had to raise the weight too...

I have, however, heard of a guy with an older CRX claim that it weighed in at 2000lbs with full interior... I'm still sceptical, but, those older civics and so-on weren't made up of much.

The stock civic weighs around 2200lbs. If you gut it and remove all possible weight bullshit, you can get it to around 1600lbs.

Depending on the year and model, Civic's can weigh between 2100 and 2400lbs.

if you REALLY want to, you can get a crx hf under 1000lbs. i have alot of friends that race civic and crxs, and they are pretty light.

you have to figure that these are mass produced economy cars, they are probably made light for gas milage and so on. you dont want to be dragging around all this extra weight

If you sit in an old CRX, you'd understand immediately...those are small sons-of-bitches....smaller than even my '80 or '84...

Depends on the year, options, etc!

But there are many things to figure.

Civics/CRXs are made from VERY thin stampings.

A Civic engine weighs much less than a rotary engine. FAR less.

Same goes for the transmission.

Then there's several hundred pounds for the rearend that Civics *don't* have.

Also the big huge radiator and oil cooler - most Civics have radiators the size of a picture book.

RX-7s also have lots of channel sections and bracing that Civics *don't* have.

Maybe because they are made of tin foil? and a civic is about 10 years newer than the Rx-7's .. Sheet metal gets thinner when vehicles get newer

THank you for asessing that my post is dumb.

I personally dont ever do that to someone, but i dont konw, just me i guess.

I knew they didnt know what they were talking about. THe thing that i was thinking was, if these civics are so light, and have the same horse power as a 12a, why arent they fast? Why cant we make our rexes that light? but, as i suspected, they arent as light as they pretend to be.

Once again, a ricer pretends to be fast, or light in this case.
