How can I fix my rearend?

Hey guys, quick question - My rear end from a GSL sat in my garage for about a year and when I pulled it out to install it, I noticed that all the diff fluid had leaked out. This means the lsd clutches inside had been dry for a while, possibly a long while. Now the lsd doesn't seem to be working... anything I can do? Thanks in advance!

Did you put fluid on the diff before you tested it? How did you know that it wasn't working?
If the lsd really is not working you could by new clutches for it. I didn't know that trans fluid ever dried up.

did you add the limited slip additive? you will need to do this on top of the standard GL-5.

Anyone happen to know what the prices would be for a rear end rebuilt and what all is involved in the replacing of the clutches.

I am assuming most likely i would have to bring it somewhere for the rebuild, but if i could get it done myself all the better.

What tools would be involved in it, would i need a hyd. press?

Yes, the diff had fluid in it when I tested it. I installed it, thought I better drain the fluid and put new in b/c I bought it used and didn't know the history on it, and thats when i discovered it was empty. I then went to the corner where it had been sitting and saw the huge leak stain right where it was. I KNOW it had fluid ion it when I put it in the corner of the garage. Also I did not add an lsd additive... where can I get some and how much is it?

The lsd additive(friction modifier) actually makes the clutches slip more. It is used to make the clutches a little slicker so that when you go around a corner they don't chatter. So, they should work better with out it.

I wouldn't worry about the oil draining out, I highly doubt that is the problems. The cluthes would stay wet for a very, very long time.

Was it working when you took the rear out? It might just be worn out.
