How bad is my carb? (2x big pics)

Is this in unusually bad shape? Worth rebuilding, or is it a shitcan candidate? Haven't had a carbed car since my first RX7 about 12 years ago, and that was back in the days when I paid people to fix stuff

Surface rust... but with some penetrating oil and spray-on grease you should be able to get the linkages sliding again. As for the innards... well you'll have to grab a rebuild kit and see.

To be on the safe side, check if any of the local junkyards have better core carbs that you can use for a rebuild.

And for goodness' sake, if you're not in an area that needs emissions, get them off of there!

Jon

Edit: I notice you've already removed the rat's nest.

Get the throttle opener and the vacuum stuff for the choke removed to make the carb easier to work on. And the dashpot too, it can be chucked. Don't forget to find a way to hold back the little part of the linkage that the hot-start assist used to hook up to. That will get caught on the manifold and stop your linkage from turning if you're not careful.

I live in Atlanta, but it's registered to my parents address in Alabama because I wasn't sure it would pass Georgia emissions. 1 more year and it's exempt anyway. I removed the rats nest because when I bought it, the ACV was dead and ripping it out was cheaper than replacing it I wasn't exactly sure what could safely be taken off of the carb.

I still want to run A/C being that it will be driven in the summer in Georgia. Will removing any of that stuff affect that?

Dats purdy, you can rebuild that. Just use lots and lots of penetrating oil on the surface rust, and either get some carb dip or a couple of cans of carb spray

Just took it apart. One of the floats was in about 3 pieces, so I'm thinking that was contributing to my problem.....lol. Haven't made a run to get penetrating oil or carb cleaner yet, and I don't even have a rebuild kit, so it will have to wait. Going out of town this weekend anyway.

Dunno why I'm even going to these lengths since I ultimately hope to just 13bt standalone the thing

Oh, and I f'ed up my OMP rod during the removal. Pulled the cotter pin but damn thing was so rusted it wouldn't come out. Guess that's what I get for not having penetrating oil on hand. So how do I go about fixing that?

I drilled out the rivet and just took the arm off.

PO got a rebuilt factory motor about 15k ago. I live in the Smyrna/Vinings area.....just barely ITP

There are a couple FBs that come to the Varsity meets on the first Thursday or each month, but I usually drive my M3 to those until I get the RX7 into a respectable condition Actually, the paint it really good (2-3 years old) but the interior was shot when I got it and the engine bay needs a massive overhaul (currently being undertaken)
