How about an electric fan
I like my new 7 but it is so stocky that I can hear the fan louder than anything else.(including the radio)
Has anyone tried an electric fan with a temp senor and being successful?
Did it cut off the noise in the engine bay? Does it cool thew engine well? How big of a fan should I get?
The car is a daily driver and not a race car or mods galore. It is stock and with the intent of keeping it that way.
Thanks

Oh boy, you really opened the can of worms with this one. I will warn you now, this is still a heated debate.
I have had clutch fans, and e-fans. Short and simple, there is a reason why I still have my E-fan. The fan I use is off a 3.8l ford taurus (before the jelly bean style) and on low. It moves more air than the stock clutch fan.
Sure, the clutch fan works. It works great. But I love my E-fan more. 2nd gear pulls harder now (boy am I going to hear it) and the engine stays cooler. Many people say the alternator won't take the strain of an e-fan, or that it is too much of a spike when starting. Well, I made this a while back:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6yxbdQAZmk
Fan is ran through a relay that gets signal from the coils, so when the car is on the fan is moving. I have since put a switch in it, so that I control when it turns off and on. Some people go the whole 9 yards and put in a thermo switch/sensor/etc. I know of a few people who use the sensor on the back of the water pump.
All in all, I have had both, and I will stick with my E-fan, no matter what anyone else says.

Alot of people use the fan from the ford taurus? I use a generic summit 150$, and hack jobbed the cowl so the fan fit inside. My biggest concern with adding an electric fan is losing the shroud around the stock fan, it draws the air through the center of the oil cooler and the entire radiator. The draw back of using a shroud is creating an 'air dam' with the fan while moving at highway speeds, not allowing enough air to be forced through the radiator because of the aftermarket fan.
for noise, its much quieter than the stock fan. My fan clutch died, or else I would still use the stock. The car made 155k on that fan, could not have been a problem other than the noise.

Happy reading, it's been well covered.

What you want to get is the flex-a-lite 160. It will fit great and push 2800 CFM's. It costs around $240.

My e-fan install, with MR2 fans. Don't be WHOLEY hopeful in that you'll get a fan for what others say they got theirs. Some have gotten fans for cheap, but some salvage yards will be dicks and rape you in price.

PSHH! PSHH! HEAR ME NOW?

I personally run the Tauras 3.8 fan on low with my 12A Turbo blowthrough. I am running at 15 psi. At our last meet, the temp that day was 98 degrees outside. I ran my car hard that day and my coolant temp never got over 175. Debate it all you guys want, but in reality, a $12 e-fan from Pull-A-Part does a pretty damn good job! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LnqZVvQWmo

Well after giving ir little thought, I also have an e-fan set up now.
I just finished installing the thing and I went all the way with the thermo switch which BTW turns on at 185 and shuts off at 160. Also it has an override that is connected to the AC Clutch and when the ac is on the fan also comes on. It works rather nicely and I am glad I did this. The car is smoother I think and sounds better IMO. It is completely stock so I now complain about my exhaust quietness
LOL
I am going to have to get an aftermarket exhaust now to be able to hear something. The car is way too quiet now
I know, I first complained about only hearing the fan but I thought there was something to hear without it. I was wrong. Yeah the 7s dont sound like the regular car out there but mine almost does. Imagine my frustration now.
So I am off to a new better sounding muffler.
If you have any suggestion please post them.
OH BTW the install was done but I still have to clean it up. You know the wires and getting a better grip on the fan I am afraid it will hit the pulley so I will not drive it until I figure out how to better attach it. I think I am gonna have to get a install kit to do it..
These are before and after pics for you.
This is the before
Of course the following are after the install
Thanks for your suggestions and comments.

It is off a minivan
I am in between the silohuette or the venture
I am not sure.
Yes it is a little big but the fan is the exact same size top to bottom but not left to right.
What do you think?
Should i get other fan?
I am thinking yes.
But my salvage yard here has about 13 taurus and none had a fan. Also 1 MR2 with a complete fan that is disintegrating with oxidation. So this was my first option. They have two more of these too.
They are in really nice shape. I took it to try it out only. For $10 What can you say?
On the exhaust I should get the muffler only right?

agreed about the racing beat... really nice deep sound... there are a couple videos in the thread in my sig. if you want to hear it
I was going to say that you can use flat ended zip ties to hold your fan on... but after looking at the mounting points... it doesn't look as though they will work for your fan... You could just try so normal zip ties.

at the bottom of the page you can find the mounting kit i used... only 5$
Good Luck

If all you're interested in is sound, you can just get the muffler. But a full header exhaust system can get you big power gains on a rotary. Racing Beat is the only company that still makes decent bolt-on systems, and they're quite audible but still reasonably quiet. If you want more sound, get a Racing Beat collected header and presilencer and a Borla muffler. Sounds really nice and won't break the bank, but it's a bit loud for some.
I've got a few vids of two cars with the Racing Beat long-primary "Streetport" system, which is a bit louder than their short-primary system:

Top of the line videos man. OUTSTANDING.
Very well done!!!
However, I am gonna have to do some searching to find a thread for exhaust. Why is everyone only recommend RB or Borla? What happens with Flowmaster and other brands out there? Am I missing something? Is it not the right flow for the rotary?
Many questions come to mind and I don't want to start a new discussion on a thread that was intended for the FAN SET up
Thanks though.
I thout it was a simple thing but obviously the exhaust is another one of those well beaten topics.

they burn. literally.
but while we are on the topic of exhaust i am going to temporarily thread jack.
If I am replacing reactor with header what else gets replaced, obviously the little cat like thing, but does the header go directly to the connecting pipe or the cats or what?
