how to: 84-5 12a, removal of controls+ nest

recommendations please:

1984 12a engine complete, ecu, and wire harness

1985 12a engine complete, ecu, and wire harness and comes with complete car, a gsl

I will install one of these engines in a 1979 rx7 temporarily (for 6 months or so maybe a year, with minimal driving.

to make the installation fast I do not want to swap the wire harness and install ecu.( unless this can be done in like 1/2 to 1 hour which I doubt).

but all of the rats nest controls wont be hooked up as well as distibutor ignition circuit wont work as is as it needs the ecu from what i see from the schematics.

my 1st thought is to install the mechanical points 79 distributor and coils so I can fire the engine and see how it runs, a very simple wire and coil setup.
but with out the ecu, all of the controls and the rats nest wont be working right, so my guess is the engine wont start because of this even if the ignition will fire the engine controls are all messed up without the ecu.
what do I do with the rats nest? and the hose and electical connections that are left hanging?

can I use the ecu only for the ignition.

my main purpose is to get a working engine in the car that will reliably start and drive. It is unknown as to the exact condition of each of the engines as of now

please include detailed how to and step by step procedures
all ideas are appreciated. I guess this is where direct fire comes in? I am not sure I want to buy a direct fire set up now which I may not use in a 1/2 year. eventually this car will get a 13b t2 or something similar.

any one interested in 85 gsl parts?
I am in baltimore md. 21208
let me know. there will be some parts I will be keeping.

I dont have any pictures yet.

Its not an ECU. The computer only runs the solenoids. If you do away with them, the computer can go away too.

Take the rats nest off and plug everything.

I looked in the haynes manual
it shows how the pickup coils in the distributor
link to the computer.

I just recalled the ignitors on the distributor!

this is where the distributor coil signal voltage
triggers the ignitor to switch a high current pulse to the ignition coil and then on to the spark plug?

is this a separate wire circuit independent from everything else?

why does the pick up coil in the distributor connect to the computer? what about advance and retard adjustments, is this the reason?

is it that simple just plug up everything?
will just doing this allow the engine to run and start better over all conditions even in winter cold?
