housing still good?

housing still good?

i'm trying to rebuild my 12a for the 1st time.
because the compression gets into the coolant system
after i disassemble my engine and found out the rear housing looks like this
is this housing reusable??

I believe that flaking is what ruin your compression. 12a are known for not having rebuildable housings especially on high mileage motors.

Missing chrome is missing chrome. It is not the cause of compression leakage into the water jacket.

Inspect the inner (orange) coolant seal channel with a fine tooth comb to determine where and why it was leaking. Did it overheat? Too much rust? Some other reason?

if i force to reuse this housing what will happen???
will it come out to be 0 compression or it'll not run?

anyway is there any place will do rechrome on the housing??

Rechroming has not been very successful. The good thing about the location of the flaking is that it is not on a compression face. The bad thing about the flaking is it can only get worse, and then the apex seal no longer has a smooth surface to glide across and then things can go bad real quick. It'll run, but for how long. Kinds like flushing the toilet, although everything appears to be in a nice swirl, eventually it all goes down the pipe. Try so save money somewhere else and replace the housing.
