Hot Start Problem...
1984 GSL 12a Nikki Carb
Heres my problem...
Car turns on cold immediatly without the choke and goes to idle while it is warming up. When I drive it somewhere and I shut it off. The engines is hard to start.
I checked the compression...
schrader valve off: front rotor needle jumps to about 100psi on all faces, same for the rear rotor.
schrader valve on: both rotors give me 100psi compression.
Ohh side note: When I pulled plugs they were a nice brownish tan color with no oil, muck, etc.
Is the compression decent?
Do you think its time to rebuild carb?
Any advice woul be appreciated
thanks

If the car is stock, you have a hot start assist mechanism which may be faulty. Try starting the car by manually giving the accelerator 1/4- 1/2 push (no pump). If it fires right up on a hot engine- odds are the hot start assist is malfunctioning.
My hot start assist is disconnected (I manually depress the accelerator) so I don't have to worry about it.
If you want to fix the hot start assist- I'll have to pull my manual and check the diagnostic sequence, as I don't recall off the top of my head. At least by following the advice above, you can test it to see if it is indeed working or not.
(The 'motor' is located on the drivers side fender well. You will see a cable rhat runs to the carb. I would check to see if that is working when you turn over a hot motor).
