Hope for SA owners and Rewinds -(rejoice!)

Well, after some hard work and some surprises, the Rewinds are on and lookin great. Some things I learned while installing these rims on an SA:

Sa owners need different lug bolts. (the stockers are too long, Fb lugs seem to work)

An adjustable coil over kit takes care of most of the clearance issues.

The lower spring perch needs to be ground down a bit to give decent clearance between it and the tire.

I can get better pictures later, but for now this is the best I can do.

Enjoy,

Rick

The rewinds look awesome mate! Are they 4x110? And you're right about the lug bolts - I just had a similar experience when putting some rims on and S2 using the shorter bolts, they barely bolted into the hub as they were the shorter ones, so I had to pinch some longer ones from another wrecked S2

yes they are 4x110. About the hazy photos - I think my scuffed cameras lens is to blame. Don't worry, I will get suitable pics up here with more clarity.

Glad I could be of assistance. I have to give some thanks to Billy at Re-speed. I gave him some measurements before ordering, and he calculated the estimated clearance. Turned out to be better than I expected.

BTW - with the Re-speed kit, I had to shave down the plastic sleeve that goes in between the threaded collar and the strut tube body( it was too thick). Billy was made aware of this issue and is going to go back and measure the 79-80 strut tube diameter and possibly make a compatible plastic sleeve exclusively for the SA tubes.

It just feels good to have another option rather than an FB strut component swap.

wheel & tire details

Rick:
Could you post the details on your combination?
Wheel size - Diameter, width and offset.
Tire size, brand & model and actual dimensions
(especially the width at the sidewalls)
Any clearance issues with the fender lip or frame, etc?
Thanks for the pics!
Dennis

15 x 7 +20 offset

205/50/15 Kuhmo Ecsta ASX (section width - 8.4")

Strangely, the front wheels seem to stick out a tad farther than the rears. I am retaining stock ride height, but if the car was lowered, I would be concerned that the front tires would rub the front fender lip on large bumps. The same goes for the rears but not as much. I will get an estimate to give you a better idea.

Are those the RE-Speed coilovers ? I was looking at them recently, and they seemed decent. Very nice looking SA.

Yes, it is an RE-Speed coilover kit using their #250 springs.

I appreciate the effort for SA owners, but wouldn't this apply to all owner's except those with SEs?

True, some parts would apply to FB's. With the SA's though, the stock strut/spring assembly poses clearance problems. Most rewinds on FB required no modification to the front suspension. I figured this would be confirmation that a coil over kit could be installed to remedy the problem rather than buying the FB strut tubes and assembly.

I just bought the 15' rewinds for the '79 , do you think Yokohama avid , 205 / 60's would fit ?
