I have my holley fuel pump wired into the fuse box for the stock fuel pump, it's a 15A fuse. It's been working fine for a year but recently it's been popping nonstop. I recently installed an AFR gauge into the radio and I'm wondering if it can be somehow related.

Edit: I guess I was being rather vague, could hooking the AFR gauge into the radio wire affect the relay for the fuel pump wiring?

 

No replies, so I'll give it a shot;

Whenever you start to see a problem, go back to the last thing you did. If you wired in an AFR gauge into anything having to do with the fuse block, and everything worked great before - and suddenly you're popping fuses, then it's related.

Personally, I would expect that you moved a wiring harness around while working on it and it's now shorting the main wires to the fuel pump. Any short to ground will blow a fuse regardless of amp-rating, so trace that wire first. If it leads you to where the AFR gauge was wired in - there you go.

Electrical issues are a PITA to track down, but luckily these cars are pretty simple compared to modern day vehicles.

Thanks for the reply, and they are a major PITA.

So far I opened up and cleaned out my fuel pump, and installed a return line fuel filter right before the regulator. Just trying to find a 1/2 fuel filter to put before the fuel pump is an issue for me, since I noticed a bunch of rust flakes in the small filter inside the pump.

Lost my keys in the process, so no way to test if that may have cured the issue, otherwise the constant flow of fuel should keep the next pump cooled (going to go mallory next)


Will do some runs with the AFR gauge disconnected, then after a day or two try to reconnect it and see if the problem reproduces... I'm just hoping it's the fuel pump dieing since as you say, electrical issues are a PITA to diagnose.
