Question Holley choke troubles... fast idle not working?

yet again, messing with the holley has my brain scrambled. right now the car runs horrible until its warm, then voila, runs fine.

i'm not sure if its the choke or what, the fast idle that should come with the choke doesnt seem to happen, its kind of hit-and-miss, some days it works, some days it doesnt. in the holley manual it says to pull open the throttle full and there should be a screw below the choke to adjust the fast idle, but i dont see it? trouble is when the choke is functioning the car does "fast idle" at about 2500rpm, the rest of the time it runs lumpy and below 1k.

right now i have to start it up. parked, lay on the gas for 10 minutes or so til its warm, turn off choke manually (flipping it with my finger). then she'll drive fine. during this period it idles incredible rough and tends to backfire during startups.

from some research i've come across a few possible issues, float bowl too high (it is a little bit, but not enough to cause this), choke out of adjustment and ive adjusted it to just about every possible position with no change at all.

any idea's? i'm sure these issues could be similar on a nikki or any carb.
