I run a holley 600 with a secondary jets on a street port 12a in a rx-2 & it runs bad ***. Now I must admit it took me a long time to get it running right but it idles smooth & it accelerates all the way to 9k. The point is u cant expect to slap on any carb & expect to run right.

Hey Nick
Before you start buying all kinds of junks, the following should give you ideas on whatever you're getting into. I just hate to see anyone waste their hard earned $$$. Sooner or later, you will have a collection like me.

IDA since I dont drive like the lil old lady from Pasadena. Im my honest opinion, IDA is the way to go as this carb can be used on any N/A application ---change of venturies and jets. Its easy to tune as the jets/venturies are easily accessible and parts are easy to find. For P-Port application, its only $150 appx to make it a 51.5 from 48. So its not bad for a 20+ yr old carb and people are always looking for an IDA. In summary, you only have to buy a carb ONCE!!!

There are downside also:
1. I have been hearing people complaining about cold starting but I never seen that problem despite it gets down to about 50* here in Socal during winter. Yeah, east coasters, thats cold enough for me. Anything below that, I may need to hibernate.

2. Just like any other carb, IDA hates the heat (90*+ weather).

3. Suck lots of gas like a typical ****.

wacky racer ida isnt recommended for a stock port by racing beat, so should i run it on a stock port?? if i need to street port my 12a just for a 48 ida i will, but can it be used on a stock port and still get a good running engine??

many wont recommend an IDA on a stocker but I have good experience with them. With stock motor, depending on your driving habits, you can use 38-40 venturies so you will need to play with the jetting/venturies.

Bottom line:
You CANNOT just bolt on a carb and assume that its jetted right; I dont care what the store or builder says. There are no 2 engiens that are alike and your location makes a big difference. You need to get your hands dirty. Otherwise, get a darn fuel injection.

To date, Im still playing with different configuration whenever I have a chance.

i switched to the ida because the dellorto seemed to be too small if you are running a stock 12a, 13b, or it is street ported the dellorto is better for every day driving. i had this setup when i had a 13b six port for 3 plus years and was trouble free and i used the same jet sizes all year from winter to summer and the car always started yea i know i didn't get the best milage in the winter but it wasn't my daily driver so i didn't care. i am currently running a 13b half bridgeport that is why i switched to a ida. the ida has a large following with the vw guys so there is plenty of after market parts around but the ida is a carb that doesn't like temp changes. if you are doing more street driving i would go with a dellorto pm me i have one for sale. i am not try to pitch a sales ad for my carb just telling my opnion but it depends on what you want to do with your car.

Sorry I got it from a forum member who also had a sp motor so it was set up nicely. Some fine tweaking and away I went! You'll be fine. Those carbs are easy to tune.

The one I bought off of eBay a couple of years ago had 190 air and 200 fuel. Seemed to work ok with a stock port. Also had a 52.5 pilot jet.
