Hitachi Carb

Who is this other fella you speak of? Does he have an 82 rx7 he uses for touge? Lol. Sup JJ?
Anyway yeah I know nikkis are about 300 cfm I don't remember if that was with the air cleaner on, but I have no idea how much cfm a hitachi pulls...
I have an opportunity to obtain one considering a hitachi will be a better carb than stock nikki 12a.

There are different sizes of the mainstream carbs.
Some Holley's, Webers, Edelbrock are 600 CFM, some are bigger, some are smaller. There isn't just a single size of carb on those mainstream 'one carb fits all' kinds of carbs.

Which Hitachi carb, there were several versions? Those from the original 10A engine flowed well, but the last version for the 13B was restricted so the Nikki performed better.
Thus, it is better to stick to the Nikki on a 12A engine.
If you have an old 13B 4 port, there is merit in changing to a Nikki. There are differences in installation. The mounting holes on a 13B carb have a wider spacing than the 12A, centre to centre across the top bolt holes in the end plates, 12A is 250mm compared with 13B at 270mm. The carb mounting stud spacing for the 12A is 87mm front to back, and 85mm side to side, 13B carb has 100mm and 115mm spacing.
To use a Nikki carb on a 13B manifold it is necessary to redrill and tap the holes into the correct location. It is faily easy and a common upgrade on a RX-3, the carb performed better, was easier to tune and there were more spares around.
If you do change from a Nikki to Hitachi carb, then redrilling and tapping is also necessary.
