? High pressure oil reg ?

I know if you shim and old skool rear oil pressure reg an 1/8th" you can easily increase you oil pressure dramatically.

But since the new one cant be taken apart, I have heard you can hammer a new skool rear oil pressure reg on the tip and flatten it and end up with the same results? Has anyone heard of this or even tried it?

Iam thinking about trying it? I have already flattened one of my rear oil pressure regs and in the middle of a rebuild!

Any thoughts?

hammering it will make the spring stiffer which creates a higher oil pressure.

sorry but Its not a a theory. I've done both ways. Your way of smashing the end and the other wherein I actually installed a "PIN or cotter pin". But I prefer the pre-81 with removable cap.

I havent done it lately due to the ability of 3rd gen ROPR

the ones with a removable cap is easier to modify since you can control the pressure. it needs to be shimmed like the front cover. the more washers (shims) , the higher the pressure.

Yes and no, but you don't need to mod them and they only run about $20 brand new at the dealer. Don't waste your time trying to mod yours.

The $20 ones they are talking about are the fd's ropr.

Old skool is, I think pre 79 or so? If you see it and it has a nut type top you can unscrew, that it!

To my knowledge you cant buy the old skool ones cheap, any ones I have found are expensive, unless you get one from someone?

No draw backs to higher oil pressure ! ! !

will the FD front oil pressure regulator fit the older engines? i ask because i figured since you need to shim the front regulator when using the RB racing rear regulator and the FD pressures aren't TOO much less, then it may need to have changes made to the front as well, eh?

Racing Beat sells shims for the front regulator whenever you buy the racing rear regulator, i think it's rated at something like 130 PSI, so i was curious about the FD regulator requiring the same.

I think if you want over 100 psi you shim the front? When you shim the rear it usually will keep you around 80psi. If I remember right?

do you have an actual figure for this?

i'm asking i went out today with the intentions of ordering one and after a mind-numbing exchange with the guy, who did not seem that interested by the way, he told me it was $39 for it (he gave me part number N3AI-14230 for it)

on the subject of the FD front regulator i was too disgusted to get a price, but it was suggested to me that Mazda probably just shimmed it from the factory. so for what it's worth, if the price is comparable to the rear, then, at least to me, it makes sense to just buy both of these parts when you're building a high performance engine.

any other thought?

my 13-B sp with FD ROPR is about 35PSi at idle. Also, it pegs the needle of a 100 psi autometer gauge at high RPM.

from where? $39 was what i was told today and i saw $29 in one of the FD threads i just searched (may have been the one i linked, but can't remember). i'd be interested in pursuing this $20 one because i am short on coin right now ...
